Gerald "Max" Schafer, born on October 8, 1932 in Delaware, OK to William Franklin Schafer and Elsie Willhite Schafer passed away March 16. Max began school in Madill, OK and graduated from Midland High School in 1950. He began North Texas State College (UNT) in the fall of 1950 and pledged Phi Tau Fraternity which became Sigma Phi Epsilon. He was in the U.S. Army, 1953-56, stationed in Germany. He returned to NTSC in 1956 and was an active Sig Ep, serving as their Social Chairman. Max graduated in 1958 with a Degree in Business and married his college sweetheart, Kay, that December. Max began his Career with General Dynamics in Ft. Worth. In 1960 they moved to Richardson and he joined Collins Radio which became Rockwell and then Alcatel. He retired in 1993. Three very important things to Max were his faith, family, and friends. His hobbies were volunteering, traveling with family and friends and being a Super Gramps/Poppy. He logged many volunteer hours at First United Methodist Church Richardson where he was a member since 1962. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Kay; brothers, William Donald Schafer of Santa Fe, NM and Edward Eugene Schafer of Midland, TX.; daughters, Cinde Manoel (Mark) of Australia and Susan Schafer of Farmers Branch; grandchildren, Nicole Schafer, Michael & Max Manoel; Also, sisters & brothers-in-law, Karen & Gordon Wise, Betty Lou Heacker & Vicki Vandaveer, Lewis Heacker & Marcia & Tom Faschingbauer and nieces and nephews. Services will be held Monday, March 21, 4:00 pm at First United Methodist Church Richardson, 503 N. Central Expressway Richardson, TX 75080. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church in his memory.
