Sherrie Gettman Caiola went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2025.

Born September 25, 1942, in Leavenworth, Washington to Leo Gettman and Alma Cook Gettman, Sherrie grew up in Wenatchee and Cashmere, graduating from Cashmere High School. She met her future husband, John, while both were working for Boeing in Seattle, where she was a department secretary and a student at the University of Washington. Shortly after they married, Sherrie and John moved across the country to New Orleans, Louisiana for a few years before then living in Richardson, Sherman, and Dallas, Texas. Sherrie and John welcomed daughters Lynn and Debbie after moving to the Dallas area.

While in Dallas, Sherrie earned her nursing degree and served as a Registered Nurse (RN) for a number of years. With that experience, coupled with her lifelong interest in helping disadvantaged children, Sherrie trained for and became a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer, and as such, counseled and supported several foster children over the years in both home life and court proceedings. Sherrie often brought the children over for a home cooked meal and a visit with her Miniature Schnauzer pups. On occasion, she took the children for outings or visited them at their foster home, always arriving with a gift or two for them. Sherrie also volunteered at the local middle school and was an active member of several Women's Clubs, tennis, and bridge groups.

Upon John's retirement, Sherrie and John moved to the community of Emerald Bay on Lake Palestine in East Texas. Both became avid golfers and Sherrie participated in many Club activities, including tennis, bridge, mahjong, and line dancing. She served a term as President of the Emerald Bay Women's Club.

Sherrie loved to travel, and she and John were fortunate enough to visit 35 countries along with many places across the United States. After 30 years at Emerald Bay, Sherrie and John had recently moved to Plano, Texas to be closer to Debbie. She was extremely happy to be there, busily decorating her new home, making new friends, and eager to become involved with new activities.

Sherrie is survived by her husband of 63 years, John; daughter, Debbie; sisters, Barbara, Judy, and Patty; brother, Chuck; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Roslyn and Glenn Bush; sister-in-law, Mary Caiola; and many nieces and nephews along with extended family.

We are thankful Sherrie did not suffer, and we are comforted that she was welcomed into heaven by her first-born, Lynn Marie; parents, Alma and Leo; in-laws, Teresa and Jim, and by the many other family members and friends who arrived before her. We can also be sure she will be greeted, tails wagging, by her many mini-Schnauzers, who she loved and cared for over the years and who showed her so much love in return.
