Joseph Reuben Sherrod aged 91 died on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at his home in Dallas, Texas. A life-long Texan, Joe was born in Fort Worth and moved to Kingwood with his wife Charlotte in 1994 to be near their Quick grandchildren. For the last seventeen years Joe had been a resident of Dallas, supervising the household of his daughter Maggie. Joe was the son of the late Robert Emmett Sherrod and Katherine McMillin Sherrod. Mr. Sherrod was a graduate of Northside High School and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. After graduating from TCU, Joe taught at Parker Junior High School and Arlington Heights High School. He concluded his award-winning education career as Director of Public Relations for FWISD. After retiring from the schools, Joe and his wife Charlotte spent 18 years selling antiques in malls and shows throughout the state of Texas. After his wife's death Mr. Sherrod spent 15 years traveling, cooking the best cherry pie and entertaining family and friends with his stories. Mr. Sherrod was predeceased by his wife Charlotte Childress Sherrod, son Frank Sherrod, his brothers Bob Sherrod, Bill Sherrod, John Sherrod and their respective wives Frances, Billye and Betty. Joe is survived by his children Larry Sherrod of Houston, Texas, Katie Sherrod Bulkley and her husband Stephen of Wellington, New Zealand, Maggie Sherrod and her new poodle Piff Puff of Dallas, Texas, Anne Sherrod Quick and her husband Bruce of Kingwood, Texas and Amy Sherrod Glazier and her husband Don of Plano, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren Michael Glazier and his wife Caroline of Dallas, Texas, Erin Quick Sutton and her husband Shaughn of Dallas, Texas, Matt Quick of Houston, Texas, Meghan Quick of Kingwood, Texas, Maggie Glazier of Plano, Texas and Emily Bulkley of Wellington, New Zealand. Joe is also survived by many, loving nieces and nephews and his first cousin BoPeep Benckart of Bloomington, Indiana.
A Mass of Celebration for Mr. Sherrod will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, June 8, 2019 Christ the King Catholic Church 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas, 75225
A private burial will be held at a later date in Granbury, Texas.
