Charles Louis Skibell was surrounded by his loving wife, Lyn, and close friends when he passed away peacefully of pancreatic cancer on Sunday. He was 63. Those who knew Charles would say he was a unique, one-of-a kind man. He was born on February 28, 1956, in Greenville, MS, and was a fourth-generation jeweler, with a longstanding Dallas business, Skibell Fine Jewelry. In 2007, Skibell met Lyn, the love of his life. They celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in May. Charles graduated from Washington Day School in Greenville. He loved to play golf, and even had a putting green in his backyard as a toddler. At the age of 14, he flew a plane with an instructor, and he was an Eagle Scout. Charles loved the St. Louis Cardinals, perhaps because he spent a lot of time listening to games on the radio with his beloved grandfather, Irving Sachs. Charles attended Memphis State University before transferring to University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity and graduated with a degree in psychology in 1978. There, he made lifelong friends, who he ultimately followed to Dallas. Charles also attended the Gemological Institute of America and received his Graduate Gemology in Residence degree in 1980. He then started his first business, Texas Gemological Services, with partner, Jimmy Tishlias, in Dallas. Charles later opened Skibell Fine Jewelry, which will celebrate 25 years in business next year at its current location in Preston Center. Charles loved dogs, especially Golden Retrievers, and he had six during his life. Max I was his first Golden Retriever, followed by Max II, Max III, Samantha, Dexter and Sassy. Giving back was very near and dear to his heart. He was a long-time member of The Kiwanis Club and served on the board of the Dallas Hebrew Free Loan Association. He was also involved in numerous charities for animals. In 2019 he was honored as a recipient of The National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award. He leaves his wife, Lyn Skibell; aunt and uncle, Richard and Andrea Skibell; step-mother, Betty Skibell; step-sister, Tracee Skibell; sister-in-law, Pam Montgomery; aunts, Margaret Sachs and Rochelle Skibell; as well as cousins and friends who became chosen family, each holding a special place in his heart. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joanne and Bernard Skibell.

A memorial service will be held Friday October 4th at 2:00 pm Temple Emanu-EL 8500 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, TX, 75225. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to any of the following organizations: Dallas Hebrew Free Loan Association, Kiwanis Club of Greater North Plano or Golden Retriever Senior Rescue.
