Douglas E. Smith
May 15, 1959 - April 27, 2014
Doug was born in Decatur, Illinois and moved to the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex in 1979. He worked many jobs during his lifetime. He enjoyed his time as a Texas Peace Officer. You could always count on a few good "cop stories" from him. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved fishing. He was a storm watcher - he would be happy to point out 'hook echoes' to anyone that cared to look at the radar with him. He was always the family photographer and had a sixth sense about when the camera was pointed at him! He was an animal lover and dog trainer. He loved all things gun related. He was always cleaning someone's gun, loading ammunition, or putting an edge on any knife he felt wasn't sharp enough to shave with. He was a lifetime member of the Dallas Pistol Club who shot and volunteered there for many years. He WAS the neighborhood watch and made sure that everyone was safe. His son Carson referred to him as 'an awesome spanker' on more than one occasion.
He was a beloved Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend . He will be greatly missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his brother Dan in 1990. He is survived by his wife Cindy, children D'Andra, Tiffany, Carson, Cooper, parents Darrell and Doris Smith, siblings Dawn Ryan and husband Rich, Darren Smith and wife Jenny, grandchildren Evelyn Ing, Korbin and Lauren Zimmerman.
