Honoring U.S. Navy Veteran Gordon (known as Sonny) Ellsworth Sorber who passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015 at the age of 77 with his family at his side. Sonny was born in West Salem Township, Pennsylvania to Hazel (Thompson) and Gordon Sorber, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife Donna Jean Sorber (Nottingham) of 57 years. They were married in front of family and friends on March 29, 1958 in Adamsville, Pennsylvania.
Sonny enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1956 where he attended naval training in Brainbridge, Maryland. Through his tenure Naval career, he was stationed in New London, Connecticut; in Charleston, South Carolina; in Norfolk, Virginia on the U.S.S. Kittiwake; Washington D.C.; and in Danang, Vietnam. Upon his return to the states, he was honorably discharged as a Yoeman in October 1970. After two years in his hometown of Pennsylvania, he returned to Washington D.C. at the U.S. Naval Security Station as a Legal Secretary in Civil Service. Joining the reserves as a Construction Battalion (C.B.s). Following in his dads footsteps, Sonny started his own company, Miracle Construction, where he used honesty and integrity that was instilled within him from his parents. These same qualities were also instilled within his own family and continues to flourish down to his great-grandchildren.
Sonny has had many enjoyments in his life. He was a family man, and with his family, he loved to travel across the United States and also enjoyed camping. You could always find him tinkering around the house driving Donna crazy with construction projects or sitting in his favorite chair watching sports, with a handful of snacks. His favorite drinks were coffee and rootbeer.
Sonnys legacy lives on in his two daughters, Deborah Sorber and Diana Sorber; two granddaughters, Elizabeth and her husband Scott Tedford and Cynthia and her husband Paul Boggess; five great-grandchildren, Chandler Sorber, Zachary Martin-Tedford, Johnathon Boggess, Savannah Tedford, and Jackson Tedford; three brothers, Robert, Jack, and William; and four sisters, Hazel, Melva, Patsy, and Jeanie.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with Service at 2:00 pm, on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 in the Brooks Family Chapel at Dallas North Funeral Home; located at 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.
Navy Honor Guard, Honor the Honorable, will be held at 1:15 pm on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery; located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
