Obituary

Betty L. Spear, 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 in Plano, Texas. She was born on August 12, 1930 in San Antonio to Augustus and Ruth Chapman. Betty grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Burbank High School. She began work at Sears after high school as a secretary. With roles as an Executive Secretary and Personnel Manager, she retired after over 30 years of service. After retirement she worked for Sunbelt Engineers in San Antonio for over 17 years. She loved watching her grandchildren in their sports activities and loved to watch college football on TV. She enjoyed decorating her home and working in her yard until her health deteriorated. The past seven years, she lived in Plano, TX near her daughter and her family. Betty married Roger Spear in San Antonio, TX on Feb 21, 1950. They were happily married for 30 years until his passing in 1980. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roger Spear and sister Dorothy Halliday. Betty is survived by daughter Sherri and husband Bob Garza of Plano, Texas; her son Kenny Spear and his wife Mary Ruth of San Antonio along with her children Grant and Kelly Lynch; her brother Jesse and wife Nita Chapman of San Antonio; her brother George Chapman of San Antonio; her grandchildren Melissa Bernu and husband Curtis; Ashley Knell and husband Will; Chris Garza and wife Emily; Jeff Garza; Courtney Spear and Carter Spear. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Noah Bernu, Zach Bernu, Robby Knell, Maddie Knell, Kennedy Garza and Grant Garza along with many nieces, nephews and other family members. A memorial service will be held at Crestview Baptist Church 8101 Eaglecrest Blvd., San Antonio, TX 78239 at 11:00AM on May 10th, 2013. It will be officiated by Pastor Marshall Moore. The family wishes to thank Collin Oaks Assisted Living and Grace Hospice caregivers for the special care they gave her.
