Obituary

Mary Jane Spencer, Marita as she was known by her friends, passed away suddenly on January 26, 2021 in Frisco, TX. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 1, 1930 to Mary Jane Rowley and Ernest Spindle Fellbaum. She attended Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, TX and Trinity College in Washington, DC where she graduated with a degree in liberal arts. She married James Leslie "Les" Spencer Jr, the love of her life, on January 22, 1955 and just recently was able to celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary together. While she and Les lived in Arlington, TX for over 40 years, she also enjoyed living in Buena Vista, Colorado for 13 years. While in Arlington, she and Les were long-time members of St. Alban's Episcopal Church. At St. Alban's, Marita was deeply involved in the Altar Guild and served as President of the School Board. In Buena Vista, they enjoyed being a part of Grace Church, where she again took care of the Altar Guild duties. She loved camping in the mountains with her family and traveling through the years to places such as Mexico, Israel and Europe. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ernest Spindle Fellbaum. Marita is survived by her husband Les, her daughters Susan and husband Andy Nichols, Mary Jane and husband Barry Dyer, and son James Leslie Spencer III, grandchildren Rachel Milner, Dillon Nichols, Travis Dyer and wife Maggie, and Ashley Dyer, and great-grandchildren Amaliah and Emerson Winter, and sister-in-law Carlyn MacMillan Fellbaum and several nieces and nephews. The family thanks Parkview in Frisco for their loving care in her final years. Due to COVID restrictions, her Memorial Service will be private. Interment will follow at Bishop Mason Mausoleum and Columbarium in Flower Mound, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Grace Church, P.O. Box 1559, Buena Vista, CO 81211, or a charity of your choice. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
