Lisa Anne Stegall, 57, of Dallas, Texas passed away January 17, 2015, surrounded by family and friends. She was a remarkable woman who touched and enriched the lives of countless people with her kindness, humor and strength. Lisa was many things: a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, an avid traveler, a creative photographer, a successful attorney, a world champion skeet shooter, an avid bicyclist, and a first-class fashionista. She was the ultimate "people person." Although her life was cut far too short, she lived more than many people would in two lifetimes, and those who shared her life were made immensely better by knowing her. She is survived by her husband, David Coody, son Michael Coody, daughter-in-law, Kelly Coody, and two beautiful grandchildren. She is also survived by her parents, Roy and Jo Stegall, her sister, Susan Stegall Eve and numerous family members in Texas, Oklahoma, and Georgia. Lisa was born in Houston, Texas, but grew up in the Dallas area with her sister and brother, the late Mark Stegall. Lisa graduated from W.T. White High school in 1975 and Trinity University in 1979. At Trinity, she was an active member of the sorority Chi Beta Epsilon, and learned to shoot skeet, winning a world championship in 1979. Lisa attended SMU School of Law, becoming an attorney in 1985. She actively practiced law in Dallas since then. She developed a specialty in employment law, and since 2001 she was a senior attorney for U.S. Postal Service. Lisa always found it ironic that she ended up working for the Postal Service given that her paternal grandfather was a postmaster in Louisiana for many years. In 1991, Lisa married fellow lawyer, David Coody. She was thrilled to become the step-mother of Michael Coody, and she considered this to be the dream "package deal" - one that brought her much happiness. During their marriage, Lisa was happiest when traveling to numerous places near and far in North America, Europe, Thailand, Argentina and the Caribbean. In 2006, Lisa and David welcomed Kelly as a daughter-in-law. The subsequent arrival of two perfect grandchildren brought her unmatched joy. She thoroughly loved being "Grandma Sisa." In recent years, Lisa became a cycling enthusiast, and inspired by her brother Marks death from diabetes became involved in raising money to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) through charity bike rides. She trained vigorously, and in 2012 rode her bike around Lake Tahoe (72 miles), and then many other charity rides after that. It was after completing a grueling 65-mile JDRF ride in Nashville in 2013, that Lisa discovered that she had cholangiocarcinoma, bile duct cancer. Despite fighting with every fiber of her body and will, and with the support of an army of family and friends, the cancer could not be overcome. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24th, at Northway Christian Church, 7202 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas. Lisa was such a caring person, never meeting a stranger, that she would want her passing to be used to help others.
