Obituary

The fierce, loving and unforgettable force that was Stephen D Moore shifted to a quiet peace on September 9, 2026 in Lewisville, TX at the age of 74.

Steve was born on February 19, 1952 in Indianapolis, IN. He was the first born of three sons to John F Moore and Dorothy Helen Qualls Moore.

Sadly, Steve had what his wife, Patricia, considered a congenital defect. He was born without a filter. If something was on his mind it most likely would come out of his mouth. You never had to doubt where you stood with him. He had a great sense of humor and being a big goof, he could make Patricia laugh when she felt sad or was having a bad day.

Steve’s feelings ran deep for those he loved and he wanted to be involved in everything pertaining to them. It could seem invasive, but was never meant that way. He simply wanted to help and know what was happening in their lives. He was a huge softy underneath a big booming voice and large presence.

Steve went to Central High School in St. Joseph, MO and graduated in June 1970.

He attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO and graduated in 1974 with a bachelor of science degree in safety. He earned a Master of Arts degree in management from Webster University in March 1995.

During college at Central Missouri State, Steve participated in ROTC. Upon graduation he entered the US Army on January 2, 1975 as 2nd Lieutenant as a chemical and ordinance officer. During his time in the Army he spent a year on Johnston Atoll in the North Pacific Ocean performing remediation of chemical weapons stored there. He also spent two years stationed in Germany and traveled extensively in Europe during his time there. He separated from the Army with the rank of Captain January 1, 1987. Upon separation he entered the Army reserves for the next four years, achieving the rank of Major before leaving the service.

Steve’s career as an instructional designer began in the service and continued until his retirement. He loved creating web based training and learning systems. His favorite thing was stand up training. He went to great lengths to make it interesting and entertaining for those he taught. His work as a contract instructor led him to assignments in Juneau, AK, Boston, MA., San Antonio, TX and Phoenix, AZ.

Steve loved projects. He had the ability to see things in 3D. He could envision a kitchen remodel and know exactly how it would look when finished. He and Patricia traveled to London, Paris and Portugal as well as numerous cities in the US. They were RV enthusiasts and traveled in a 40 foot fifth wheel RV full time for 3 years, traveling in the western part of the US. He loved anything tech related and automated anything and everything he could.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Dorothy Moore. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, his beloved daughters, Kristina Tuckerman and Heidi Parrish. He is also survived by two sons, Timothy Moore and John David Leonetti and daughter, Susanna Mullins, stepsons, Jeff Gonzalez (affectionately referred to as his hero) Jacob Lorich and Nathan Lorich, five grandchildren and six step grandchildren. He loved them all. Steve is survived by his brothers, Robert Moore and Kevin Moore and cousin Mike Qualls, dear friend Elijah Vasques and two spoiled dogs, Bella and Cassie.

A celebration of life will be held sometime in the future. Plans are still pending as of September 23, 2026.
