Obituary for Steven Alexander Roberts

Stephen Alexander Roberts (Steve) was born on June 18, 1976, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas He was the youngest son of Shirley and Dave Roberts, and brother to Stu and Scott Roberts.

Steve attended Richardson ISD schools: Mohawk Elementary, North Junior High, and JJ Pearce High School. He also attended Richland and Brookhaven Community Colleges taking mostly computer classes, a natural inclination for him.

Steve’s expertise was as an Audio Visual Specialist. He assisted with lights and sounds during many dramatic productions while he was a student in junior high and high school. He also played a major role with lights and sound at his church, First United Methodist Church in Richardson. (He took his pledge to “uphold the church with his prayers, his presence, his gifts, his SERVICE seriously.)

Steve’s first pivotal job was working for a small startup run by Mark Cuban called “Audionet.” Steve was one of the first 40 hires made there. Audionet became Broadcast.com and then Yahoo purchased Broadcast.com. During the latter years at Yahoo, Steve felt the pull to return to FUMC-R where he proved himself over and over in that role; the church offered Steve a job to become the director of Audio-Visual and Information Technology to manage AV on Sundays as well as during weddings and other church-related events. As well, Steve’s knowledge in computers and networking gained while working at Broadcast.com was utilized expanding and building the I.T. infrastructure at the church. In the years of 2003 through 2006 Steve managed all AV and IT aspects of First United Methodist Church’s relocation from the Belt Line Road campus to its current location on Central Expressway. Steve worked tirelessly with a team of over 10 staff and volunteers to make the transition as seamless as possible.

After several successful years in that position, Steve joined another firm which provided AV assistance to musical groups. In this role he was able to travel all over Europe, the United Kingdom, South America, and Canada as well as many major cities in the United States. After a few years of that exhausting job, Steve was offered a position with IRIS International as assistant facilities manager. This company had three football field-size warehouses to manufacture the plastic containers supplied to The Container Store and Walmart.

Steve’s untimely death followed a series of health-related conditions. He will no doubt be greeted by his father, his grandparents, and other relatives who will be thrilled to see him as well as show him around his Heavenly home.

Steve would want his family to thank you for your friendship, your love, and devotion to him. He was enamored with and very fond of his friends.
