Born 1-6-42, Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Helen Juanita and Roy Stovall. Survived by his wife Janet Cox Stovall of 51 years; sons, Shane (Wendy) and Craig (Janka); grandchildren, Lee, Sydney, and Michael; sister, Susan (Bruce) Magerman; and nieces Niki (Col. David, USAF) Willcox, and Kayley Magerman. Brother-in-law, Dr. William (Dr. Diane) Cox; and sister-in-law, Dr. Katheryn Reeder (Ronny) Carr.
Graduated from Southwest HS, Atlanta, Georgia, where he was in the Governor's Program, top % National Merit Finalist, played basketball and was a youth leader. Attended Emery University in Atlanta before attending Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala., where he met Janet.
Graduated from University of Texas Dallas, Summa Cum Laud; and Mediation Certified. Served in the US Air Force and retired from IBM; active member of the Jaycees, Wheaton, Illinois. Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scout Master, Houston, TX; and Boy Scouts Charlottesville, Virginia, District Officer. Became a Certified Lay Minister for the United Methodist Church, Charlottesville, Virginia, and pastored two small churches while working full time.
Moved to Plano in July 1989. Served on the Cultural Affairs Commission and Library Board before being elected to Plano City Council in 1999. While on City Council, served on the Local and State Government Advisory Committee and the Federal Communications Commission. Member St. Andrew UMC; served on the Worship Committee, taught new member classes, sang in the choir, and volunteered in the Seven Loaves Food Bank. Also volunteered at Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano.
Memorial Service June 27, 2015, 2pm at St. Andrew UMC, Plano. Reception following at the church. In lieu of flowers; donate to Seven Loaves at St. Andrew UMC, Plano, or the Plano Library Foundation.
