Obituary

John F. Sweetnam Jr, passed away of natural causes Saturday March 21st in Plano Texas. John, known to his friends as "Jack", was 76 at the time of his passing. Jack was born in Champaign, Illinois to Rhoena and John Sweetnam in 1938. He and his brother Bill (William J Sweetnam of El Paso) grew up in Decatur Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois and graduated with an Architecture degree in 1961. Jack also served in the US Army Transportation Corps until 1964. Jack's hobbies included his love of dogs, studying history (especially the Civil War era) and his grandchildren. He is survived by Susan, his wife of 55 years; their four children and spouses: Jacqueline (Rich), Robert (Yolanda), George (Denise) and Daniel (Nicole); and twelve grandchildren: Nate (Desiree), Calandra, Dale, Julia, Josh, Ariana, Abby, John, Anissa, AJ, Chris and Tanner. He was preceded in death by his faithful 4-legged companions Bobby and Major and is survived by his quiet furry friend, Slate. His career after graduating college included military service, self-employment for 21 years in partnership with his father, 17 years with the Dallas architectural firm HKS, and 5 years with KAI/ACT21 working on the Dart Rail system project. The family held a private gathering for him and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
