Obituary

Robert Otto Tapler, age 90, died peacefully in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday, August 20, 2016. Bob was born on April 9, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan to Vincent and Frances Tapler. He served during WWII in the US Navy in communications. He attended the University of Michigan and received an engineering degree. He married Mary Dee Connelly on September 11, 1954. After moving to Dallas in 1964, Bob worked in manufacturing, soon starting his own packaging company. He was a wonderful boss and was known as "Daddy Bob" to his employees. He enjoyed playing golf and was very proud of his two holes-in-one. He loved crossword puzzles, playing bridge, and dancing with the Swinging Saints. He and Dee traveled the world visiting beautiful destinations. He will be remembered as an amazing and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Dee Tapler. His four children: Deborah Anne Tapler (Jeffrey Horswell), William Robert Tapler (Magdalen Tapler), Nancy Dee McMenamy (Brian McMenamy), and Thomas Donald Tapler (Madison Tapler). His eight grandchildren: Shannon Horswell Sadek (Steven Sadek), Calli Beth Tapler, Mackenzie Tapler Welsh (Matthew Welsh), Austin Otto Tapler, William Alan Tapler, Kristen McMenamy Crouch (Aric Crouch), James-Thomas Vincent Tapler, and Josslyn Kate Tapler. His two great-grandchildren: Jack Amir Sadek and Scott Lee Sadek. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at the Edgemere Retirement Community Auditorium on 8523 Thackery Street in Dallas at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be directed to UT Southwestern Medical Center, P.O. Box 910888, Dallas, TX 75391-0888 payable to UT Southwestern Medical Center or online at www.utsouthwestern.edu/donatenow to support the Friends of Alzheimer's Disease Center to continue research to find a cure for dementia.
