Thomas George Hill was born on January 9, 1940, in Pittsburg, Texas, to the late Walter Cecil Hill, Jr. and Varene Mable George Hill.
A devout Christian from an early age, Thomas George was baptized and served the church getting his foundational teachings of how to be a servant of God at Pine Bluff Baptist Church. A native resident of Pittsburg, he attended the local public school system and graduated from Douglass High School in the class of 1958, where he excelled in athletics.
Following graduation, on August 17, 1960, Thomas George married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Rochelle Madonna Ferguson. They were blessed with two sons, Thomas E. Hill and Dr. Dometrius D. Hill, Ed.D. Thomas George then entered the United States Navy as a seaman, rising through the enlisted ranks to become an officer. Commander Thomas George Hill was a highly decorated Navy veteran. He retired after 33 years of distinguished honorable military service, at the rank of Commander, having earned numerous commendations for his service.
Throughout his life, Commander Hill dedicated himself to serving his country and community. He established programs like DASH (Douglas Alumni Summer Happening) to inspire young minds to dream and excel above all odds. He tirelessly collaborated with community leaders to preserve historic landmarks and played a pivotal role in spearheading efforts to pay off the Douglas property.
Mr. Thomas George Hill was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley Ann Hill Jordan, and brother Russell Martin Hill. He is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Rochelle Madonna Hill; sons Thomas E. (Jeannine) Hill of Keller, Texas, and Dr. Dometrius D. (Christine) Hill of Whitehouse, Texas; grandchildren Skylar Hill, Kassadi (William) Donavon, Malik Hill, and Zachary Watts; great-grandchildren Kaiden Washington, Kyrie Batson, and Kamden Batson; brother Bishop Ronald Cline (Osie) Hill, Sr. of Los Angeles, California; sisters-in-law Claudette Hamilton of Tucson, Arizona, and Paulette Schaffer of Dallas, Texas; Lavera Hill of Pittsburg, Texas; brother-in-law Ronald (Tess) Ferguson of Kansas City, KS; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, April 12, 2024, at Pine Bluff Baptist Church, 406 Fulton Street, Pittsburg, TX 75686. A Viewing will be held Friday at 9:00am immediately before the Funeral Service at the church. Committal Service with full Navy Honors will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 2:15pm.
