Lu Ella (Hejl) Turner of Dallas, Texas, died peacefully on June 12th. A family member described Lu as "effervescent, joyful and sparkling in her interactions with people - she loved you from the moment you came into her world. It's who she was, she was naturally loving." She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was warm and giving always there for friends and family in their time of need. Despite a decline in her ability to communicate, she continued to love well and be a blessing to the end. Lu was born on August 13, 1928 to Frances and Joseph Hejl and grew up on a farm outside of Temple, Texas. She lived in Austin before moving to Dallas and working for the Veterans Administration. She met Tommy Turner at a dance at the YMCA and they married in 1949. Lu and Tommy had two children, Janie and Tommy. 'Momo and Dado' were a faithful team. Momo was a stay-at-home mom who was active in her kids' lives and schools. Later in life, she greeted visitors for many years at University Park United Methodist Church as receptionist before dedicating herself to taking care of Tommy. Lu is survived by her daughter Janie Hoy (Mark Hoy), son Tommy Turner (Chris Turner), grandchildren Evan and Libby Hoy, sister-in-law Francile Hejl, quite a few nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband (2014), parents and brothers Johnny, Edmund, Walter and Andrew Hejl. A memorial service will be on Saturday, June 17th, at 2:00 at University Park United Methodist Church, followed by a reception.
