Gene Wilder June 11, 1933 - August 28, 2016 Jerome Silberman, better known as Gene Wilder, died on August 28th 2016 at the age of 83, at home in Stamford, Connecticut. Born Jerome Silberman in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on June 11, 1933, Wilder was the son of William J. and Jeanne Baer Silberman. He studied at the University of Iowa, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol, England, and Herbert Berghof Studio in New York, before being drafted into the Army on September 10, 1956 and training at Fort Sam Houston as a medic. After a short service in the military he returned with a scholarship to EB Studio in New York. Wilder began his career as an American stage and screen comic actor in 1962. Best remembered for his roles in Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Wilder was also a writer, cartoonist, painter, and a man of charity.
