William D. Eason, Jr., a selfless father and husband who lived a life of kindness and decency, died Aug. 18, 2026, in Dallas. He was 84.
Bill was born July 2, 1942, in Charlotte, N.C., to William and Frances Eason. He grew up in Greenville, Texas, where he wrote for a newspaper as a teen, before studying journalism and marketing at the University of Texas.
He met the love of his life, Emily, through the Christian Science church, and the two became inseparable, rarely leaving each other’s side across 61 years of marriage.
They began their lives together in Dallas, then moved to a military base in Virginia. Bill became a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War, overseeing supplies and the deployment of amphibious vehicles.
His life consisted of hard work, service and devotion to his wife and four children. He was always working but never absent. He cooked and cleaned and spent countless hours with his kids in an era when few men did.
He showed love through small acts of kindness. He never let his wife open a car door and rarely raised his voice. He read to his kids at bedtime, made them breakfast and drove them everywhere.
He had no ego, and few hobbies of his own. Instead, he took joy in his children’s achievements, cheering them on in academics, sports and plays; in careers, relationships and parenthood.
As a young father, he started a bookkeeping business serving small mom-and-pop companies. He had a paper route and opened a print shop. He spent most of his career helping loyal clients with bookkeeping and taxes until his passing.
He logged countless miles on road trips in his truck and fifth-wheel trailer — his children and their grandmother in tow. When his kids moved away, the road trips only got longer. In his final months, he hiked with his wife to waterfalls, gazed at aspens in the Rocky Mountains and visited his grandchildren on the opposite coast.
For years, he was a leader in the Christian Science church: the first reader at services, a Sunday school teacher and a board member. Later in life, he attended the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, where his wife sings in the choir and plays piano. He enjoyed making new friendships on trips abroad with the church.
Bill is survived by his wife, Emily, and their four children: Glen, Deborah, Rebekah and her husband, Ryan, and Brian and his wife, Sonia. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Austin, Allie and Olivia; his brother, Jim, and Jim’s children and grandchildren.
A requiem Eucharist will be held at 2 p.m. October 24 at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas. His family asks that donations in his memory be made to the church’s music endowment fund at https://www.transfiguration.net/give/ or to World Vision.
