William (Bill) McDonald Cross, 91, loving husband and wonderful father, passed away on May 5, 2026. He was born May 21, 1934, in Abingdon, Virginia, son of John A. Cross and Elsie R. Cross. He graduated from Dobyns Bennett HS in Kingsport, Tennessee and Rice University in Houston, Texas with graduate studies in urban and regional planning at M.I.T. in Cambridge, MA and other universities. He served as a Reserve Officer and retired after 38 years with the USA Corps of Engineers as Chief Architect for construction of the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston and Division Architect in Honolulu, San Francisco, and Dallas. His projects, throughout the country and Pacific overseas, included planning, design, estimating and construction supervision of major military installations, regional medical and civil work centers. He celebrated with his wife Jane, 65 years of marriage and enjoyed family activities along with ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by siblings Kenneth Cross, Sharon Honeycutt, and son-in-law Randy Schneck. He is survived by wife Jane, children, Jennie Lee Schneck, Laurie Jane (Brian) Moore, Dr. William M. Jr. (Cynthia) Cross, Dinah Suzanne (Damon) LaDuke, and brother John A. (Jane) Cross; his grandchildren Mary Jane (Henry), Sarah (Jake), Will (Andrea), Ethan (Josie), Emma (Ben), Elea, Ashley (Josh), Tinsley, Austin, and Justus; and his great-grandchildren Madeleine, Brooks, Silas, Braxton, and Camden. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Bill's honor.
