William Albert "Bill" Powell, 87 of Plano Texas died peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 7, 1935, to Floyd and Catherine Powell in Columbus Ohio, Bill attended Holy Rosary High School and was a graduate of his beloved Ohio State University where he studied accounting and received his Certified Public Accounting license. Bill married his elementary school sweetheart Barbara Hutchings, also of Columbus Ohio. They briefly relocated to Chicago, Illinois and Framingham, Massachusetts before ultimately settling in Plano Texas. Bill is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Barbara, daughters Karen Creel and her husband Colin of Allen, Texas, Kristine Kolodziej and her husband Brian of Atlanta, Georgia and Kimberlee Nelson and her husband James of Dallas, Texas. He also leaves behind six grandchildren Amanda, Abbey, Meagan, Connor, Arrington and Audreann. An avid Buckeye fan, Bill rarely missed watching one of their sporting events, usually wearing his scarlet red Ohio State hat or sweatshirt, yelling at the TV, and watching the "Best Damn Band in the Land" perform. Bill enjoyed fishing trips with his sons-in-law. He also enjoyed the Texas lifestyle, including year-round outdoor activities and playing Poker with the local Italian Club. At home, he was always open for family card playing nights, and he took no mercy with the players of any age at the table. For relaxation, he and Barbara enjoyed traveling to numerous European destinations, spending holidays, and hosting memorable beach vacations with his entire family. Professionally, Bill enjoyed a long and successful career as a CPA, including stints at Arthur Andersen and Components Corporation of America until his retirement at the age of 71. Bill was a lifelong practicing Catholic and founding parishioner of Prince of Peace Catholic Church where he was a Board member. Bill also volunteered his time at many organizations including Meals on Wheels and the Plano Police Department where he proudly collected $3.5 million in warrants. He will be dearly missed but will always be remembered as a generous caring husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, neighbor, and friend. The family suggest that memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels.
