William David
Sharadin
Jan 23, 1934 — Oct 28, 2024
William David Sharadin, 90, passed away peacefully on October 28th, 2024. He was born on January 23rd, 1934, in Danville, PA to Abraham and Georgena Sharadin. "Bill" grew up in the Danville and Middleburg area, the 10th of 11 children. Upon graduating from Middleburg High in 1952, he went right into the Air Force. He initially served as a B-47 mechanic in Florida. He was discharged in 1956 and went to nursing school in Philadelphia, PA. He met and married Ruth Anne Fernley during this time. He then rejoined the Air Force and served through 1978, ending with the rank of Major. His service took him to Montgomery AL, Savannah GA, Travis AFB CA, Wilmington DE, a year in Vietnam, Holloman AFB, NM, and twice to both San Antonio TX and Lakenheath England. Besides being stationed around America and in England, Bill took his family on adventures all over America and Europe. After retiring from the Air Force, Bill worked at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio through 1996 when he hung up his stethoscope. He and Ruth Anne moved to Benbrook, TX in 2004 to be close to their youngest grandchildren. It gave them all a great opportunity to do life together for the past 20 years.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He and Ruth Anne would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this coming Nov. 20th. He loved music and sang in a Barbershop group in England, and in a choir at a Billy Graham Crusade. They were faithful in church attendance, and he was generous to many churches, organizations, and people over the years. He remained in contact with family members, high school friends, and co-workers, catching up and reminiscing. Talking about the Phillies and Eagles were often part of those conversations! At points for his children there was a boat, a dog, a cat, and a horse, and there were camping trips and adventures, including plenty of swimming activities in the summers. He read the paper every day, did crossword puzzles, grew tomatoes and sometimes other veggies. Recently he did puzzles when he was able. Dad volunteered at Bible Study Fellowship in San Antonio, and at Westpark Elementary School in Benbrook.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Georgena Sharadin, siblings: Kenneth, Katherine Mulcahy, Eleanor Faust, Harold, Paul, Jim, Doris Robinson, Donald, and Grace Winey. He was also preceded in death by son, William David Sharadin, Jr., son-in-law Michael Bennett (Annie), son-in-law Darren Stinchcomb (Karen) and granddaughter, Hannah Bennett Drake (Maj. Joseph).
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Anne Fernley Sharadin, one sister, Ruth McKeown, and one brother-in-law, Carl Winey. He is also survived by three daughters Annie Atkinson (Dave) of Turlock, CA, Karen Stinchcomb of Fort Worth, TX and Sally McWhorter (Todd) of Benbrook, TX. He dearly loved his 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren, along with countless nieces and nephews and their families, and extended family members.
