Obituary
Edward Royce Parish, age 91, died in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, July 10th, 2016. He was born on October 20th, 1924 in Santa Anna, Texas, to Lillian Melissa and Preston Ratio Parish. Royce received a B.S. and M.S. in Physics at North Texas State University. He worked at Mobil Field Research Lab in Duncanville, Texas, and later in the Mobil Well Logging Unit until retiring in 1984. He married Mary Marzelle Buford in 1947, had four sons, Eric, Stephen, Troy, and Darin, and was devoted to his family. In 1953 he joined the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA), later called the Barbershop Harmony Society. In the late 50’s and 60’s, he was very active as the bass singer in the Knights of Harmony, a show and contest barbershop quartet. He was also very active in the Aldersgate Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. He enjoyed golfing and fishing and was a volunteer driver for the Red Cross, the Grand Prairie Community Service, and the Community Crossroads Center in Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his sister Violet Peterman Carlson, brother John Allen Parish, and son Troy Randall Parish. He is survived by sons Eric Wayne Parish with wife Gala and children Shela, Andrew, and Ayden; Dr. Stephen Royce Parish with wife Jyme and children David, James, and Elisabeth; and Darin Miles Parish with wife Michelle. Royce is also survived by four great grandchildren, Nayan, Rowyn, Thatcher, and Rori. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 16, at 10:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church or to the Troy Randall Parish Scholarship at the University of Texas.
