Neher, David J.
Obituary
David J. Neher, 71, passed away peacefully in his home in Richardson on July 30, 2016 surrounded by family and friends, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Dave was born March 29, 1945 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin and lived his entire childhood on a farm that had been in his family since the Civil War. He went to a one-room school house until the 8th grade. He then went to Delavan-Darien High School where he met the love of his life, Joan Morrison Neher. He attended college at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Dave and Joan were married March 12, 1966 and recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Dave truly lived life to the fullest and always enjoyed an adventure. He loved fishing, hunting and traveling with family and friends, especially to see the Green Bay Packers. He loved building street rods and amassed quite a collection over the years. He and his sons had a race car but he always said that only lasted until the boys discovered girls. His sense of humor and continuous smile were contagious. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Wilson Neher and Bernice (Shanahan) Neher. He is also survived by a sister, Joanne C. Neher in Duluth, MN. Left to honor and remember him are his loving wife, Joan, two sons, PJ and his wife Tara and Chris and his wife Melissa. He has six beautiful grandchildren, Brandon (17), Savannah (13), Natalie (10), Bonnie (7), Kathryn (5), Emma (4) and his loving and faithful dog, Angel. He always stated he had a third “honorary” son, Derik Davis who has provided unending support and many laughs for the family. He worked for Collins Radio/Rockwell/Alcatel for 32 years and retired in 2000. Special thanks to Faith Presbyterian Hospice and Carestaff of Dallas for all the loving care provided. The family will host a “Celebration of Life” at the Aria Funeral Home, 19310 Preston Road, Dallas, Wednesday, Aug. 3rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Dave would want you dress casually. Arrangements are under the direction of: ARIA Cremation Service & Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700
