…not a week in the past 10+years, Yolanda and I sharing viewpoints and opinions: she was my “office next door neighbor”;we shared great presentations in Beaumont – Texas History Association- this Spring where I met her wonderful husband…PTK students were always waiting at her door for assistance and she was there for them with a smile..Will miss you!
Met her almost daily at North Lake, cannot forget her smile. My deepest sympathies go out to you and your family. May God give family the comfort and peace that you seek and may the soul of your loved one rest in peace.
Sammy,
Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.May the sorrow you feel in your heart lighten by the love that surrounds you.
Sammy,
Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of your wife.Words fall short of expressing my sorrow for your loss.
Dr. Romero will forever be remembered for her beautiful spirit. I had the opportunity to have her as both a professor and colleague. She was always kind-hearted, humble, and available to everyone. She will always be treasured.
I send condolences to the family and friends. Yolanda nurtured and assisted students far beyond the classroom. She loved Phi Theta Kappa and was the best advisor. As a fellow advisor, she was the role model we aspired to reach. She will be missed
I worked as a librarian with Yolanda and her history classes for the last few years. She was passionate, a great teacher, and roll model for many students. I learned so much from her. It means so much to me to have my path cross hers in this way. Condolences, thoughts, hearts, and prayers for the family.
Dr. Romero was my history teacher back in the early 1990’0. I was and still am a single mother and she was so encouraging to me sharing her story about her hardships and encouraged me to stay in school. To this day, I am a school teacher and part of that is due to Dr. Romero. I am so saddened to hear of this terrible loss. My prayers go out to the family.
“WHEN SHE (PASSED INTO ETERNITY), IT WAS LIKE THE CEASING OF EXQUISITE MUSIC.”
SCHOLAR, HUMANITARIAN, MENTOR TO STUDENTS, AND TEACHER EXTRAORDINAIRE, YOLANDA WAS MY DEAR FRIEND AND COLLEAGUE FOR 26 YEARS. NONE SUCH AS SHE WILL PASS AGAIN THIS WAY.
Yolanda followed me in the History Department at Texas Tech, and I always hoped that she and I would co-author a book. My hopes go with her. I can only imagine the loss that her family is feeling at her untimely passing. God bless this beautiful soul.
I was lucky enough to be her office mate in graduate school for 2 and a half years and taught in a class with her when we were both TAs. She was always a pleasure to work with and a dedicated instructor. I am sad to hear of her passing and know she will be missed by all who knew her.
It is with great sadness that we received news of Dr. Romero’s passing. She was a long time member of the West Texas Historical Association, participating in numerous conferences, presenting papers, reviewing books, and providing advice and informed counsel as he pioneered then, the field of Mexican-American studies. Moreover, she was a good friend to many whom she met during her graduate student days at Texas Tech University, and later as a gracious colleague during her time as professor at Northlake College. We will miss her very much.
As the professor who directed Yolanda’s doctoral studies I am sad to learn of her passing. She was a capable scholar and a fine instructor.
My deepest condolences on this great loss. Searching for her online and found this. Prayers of comfort for you SAMMY and family . I live in Austin , please call me anytime.
Sorry to just now here she was my Friend and Instructor at Northlake College
I knew “Jolly” Yolanda since high school in Lubbock, Texas. We remained friends thru the years. I learned of her passing recently. RIP my dear friend
