Obituary

Bryant, William Kendall October 18, 1933 – August 7, 2016

What a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Bill leaves behind a loving and supportive family: his wife of 60 years, Margot, his daughters Stacy (Richard Henderson), grandchildren, Kendall, Zoe and Will Papathanasiou, Scott, Taylor, Richard, Ty and James Henderson; and Bentley, grandchildren Bethany (Joe Monroe), Robyn, great-grandchildren Sawyer and Zachary, and Lily the Dog. Aside from being the best family man anyone could ask for, Bill was a paint contractor for four decades bringing beauty to his clients’ homes and putting pride in everything he touched. Over the years, he developed trusting relationships with each of his clients – who meant so much to him. He was a gifted craftsman. It was once said, “Oh don’t worry about that, my dad can fix it…he can fix anything!”  And he could. He was a lover of nature & sunrises, a true Longhorn fan, made the best waffles, and had a priceless sense of humor and a smile that brought so much happiness to the people around him.  Bill was a thinker, a listener, a surveyor of the scene.  Although he was never too much of a conversationalist in group settings, every one-on-one conversation shared with him held great value.  Largely anecdotal, (we loved hearing that he rode his horse, Ginger, to grade school, or that his first car was a Model T Ford or that he and Margot traveled Europe during his time in the Army), conversation was always peppered with good morals and “you can do anything” vibes.  He leaves behind a memory of a man who expressed uninhibited Spirit, steadfast Truth, and wholehearted Love. Throughout his life, Bill maintained his love of Christian Science. He was an active member of the Christian Science church for over 40 years where he served in many different capacities. In a letter one of his grandchildren wrote to him, which all of the others would surely agree with, she wrote: “Boppy, you are, and always will be, the strongest, funniest, smartest, handiest, hungriest (can’t forget that one), and most supportive grandfather anyone could ever ask for and I love you very dearly.” At his request, no services will be held, but if any memorials are made on his behalf, he would have loved for them to go either The Leaves, a Christian Science Nursing Facility (1230 W. Spring Valley Road, Richardson, Texas 75080), Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist (5655 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75220), or First Church of Christ, Scientist Reading Room (1930 N. Coit Rd #120, Richardson, Texas 75080). You will be missed by all the hearts you have touched. Bill was a true southern gentleman – kind, caring, trustworthy. He was also a man with a wonderfully warm smile. He was our family (parents, aunts/uncles, mine) painter for over 30 years. He was everything said about him here.

My condolences go to his wife and family.

I am a neighbor of Bill and Margot’s on Forest Hills. Bill is the kind of guy that make neighborhoods great. As he was walking Lily, I would often stop him and talk about how the heck I could get my lawn to look as nice as his. Bill was always smiling and had such a cool temperament. I really enjoyed our conversations and the insight that he provided to me about life. To all his family and friends, please accept my most sincere condolences on the loss of Bill. I could only hope to be half the man he was and will remember him by trying to better my character as a husband and father.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
