Davis, Terry Wayne
Obituary
November 14, 1957 – August 31, 2016 Terry Wayne Davis passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer; he was 58 years old. Terry was born November 14, 1957 in Gainesville, TX to Bill and Opal (Williams) Davis. The middle child of three brothers, Terry was a mischievous goofball who loved making others laugh. Terry graduated from North Mesquite High School in 1976 and then attended The University of Texas at Dallas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with a major in Accounting in 1980. His career took him to Frito Lay and Hoffman Pederson & McBryde before he eventually established his own accounting practice in 1993. He quickly built a loyal client base who valued his professional guidance and friendship. Terry was a successful businessman, but his greatest accomplishment was being an amazing father to his two children, Melissa and Matt. He shared with them his love of music, sports, and travel. They even came to cherish every single one of his jokes, funny or not. Terry’s love for music was evident to all whether loudly singing along to one of his favorite songs or front and center at a concert of one of the many bands he loved. He had a particular appreciation of singer-songwriters and supported many fundraising campaigns for up and coming musicians. A life-long sports fan, Terry avidly followed his favorite Dallas teams, as well as attended Matt’s many sports games. An accomplished golfer and snow skier, he met Michele in 2010 through their mutual love of skiing. Best known for his infectious smile and sweet spirit, Terry spent a great deal of his time helping others and living life to the fullest. Over the years Terry stayed close to many childhood friends and he was particularly close to his cousins, Steve and Carol. Terry was rich with countless good friends worth their weight in gold and he treasured his love for his family like no other. Terry is preceded in death by his father, Bill Davis, and brother, Bret Davis. He is survived by his fiancée, Michele Shanahan; children Melissa Davis and fiancé David Rodriguez, and Matthew Davis and fiancée, Katie Green; mother Opal Cathey and husband Bill; and brother Rick Davis and wife Lorraine, along with Diane Davis, the mother of his children. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, and dear friends who meant so much to him. Family, friends, and acquaintances are invited to join the family in remembering Terry at his memorial service on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at ‘3015 at Trinity Groves’ (3015 Gulden Lane Dallas, TX 75212) with Visitation at 10:00 am and Service at 11:00 am. Attendees are encouraged to carpool. A friend like no other. A kind heart & word the world should only know. Our heart is heavy ..yet we know God will bless this kind man – his family & children always. “The smallest gesture is more than the greatest intentions”
I will miss your friendship of twenty+ years. I have valued your guidance and service to our company over the years. It has been a joy to watch our kids grow up. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
We will always remember Terry’s smile and good natured personality. As bad as tax season was for us, we always enjoyed seeing Terry and left smiling. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace dear friend.
Terry was a precious friend to all who knew him. I will miss him dearly. He went out of his way to cultivate his friendships, which is rare these days. I will miss texting songs to him and saying “have you heard this great song?”…to which he always answered “yes!”…he was my music go-to guru guy! I will miss all of the “crew” get togethers that we had throughout the last several years. It just won’t be the same. Much love to all of his family and friends.
Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for losing this wonderful man. Terry I will miss that smile and the way you looked at Michele with so much love.
Thank you for all the joy you brought into this world.
My prayers and condolences to the entire family. Maybe God welcome him into his gates and watch over us always.
I just cant believe Terry is gone. He was a friend, He was my CPA, and he was just an all around great guy. I will never forget that mischievous smile of his and that great sense of humor. Rest in peace my friend.
Terry, what great memories we share growing up together on Sherwood. All the basketball, football, putt-putt golf, water skiing, etc. I’m sure going to miss you here, but I know I’ll one day see you again my brother.

Terry was a man like no other. He had a heart of gold and a contagious smile that could light up a room. Over the last 9 years working with him we built a wonderful bond that I will always cherish. He encouraged me to never give up even when times seemed impossible. Terry will always hold a special place in my heart and I will never forget the wonderful man I had the pleasure of knowing and working with on a daily basis for 9 years. You will be greatly missed.
You will be missed Terry. Thank you for being my friend in aty Zack Motley Elementary. I remember one day I went to your home to play the electric football game you got for Christmas. My mother told me to be home by 5:30 for supper. We were playing having a great time watching the football players move across the field. All of a sudden I asked you what time it was. You went to check, you came back and said “Johnny, its 8:30” Well I quickly ran form your house and headed down the alley hoping to get to my room before my mother could find out. We had great times in the neighborhood and in school also. Until we meet again my friend. May the Lord Bless you, May the Lord Keep you, may the perpetual light shine upon you. And may the Lord raise his Devine countenance upon you and grant you rest. Amen Brother. My prayers will always be with your family, as you are in Good Hands now and in God’s Grace. God has wiped away all your tears and has subdued all your pain.
The Richardson Wildflower festival will never be the same without you, Terry. You were truly a kind and very warm person. May God bless your family with wonderful memories. We will miss you!
Terry was my favorite uncle and my dad’s best friend. He and I loved to make the family laugh at holidays. One time when I was little and in the hospital for surgery he hired a guy in a bunny costume to come to the hospital to cheer me up. I can’t imagine life without his kindness, generosity, and good cheer. Nobody who knew him didn’t like him, and we all will miss him terribly.
You will definitely be missed, you have been such a good friend and CPA over the past 25+ years. It is so hard for us to realize that we won’t be able to do Soulman’s anymore. Terry we miss you and love you and look forward meeting again.
The few times I met Terry I immediately felt his warmth, his generous spirit and his capacity for joy. He made my friend Michele happy and for that I loved him. Dan and my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Matt and my son Scott grew up together and while I did’nt know Terry that well there were a few times that we did meet and talk prior to the boys being able to drive. Also, over the past several years he completed my tax returns. Terry was the salt of the earth and a kind and gentle man that was wicked smart when it came to taxes and from what I can tell from Matt and his sister a great father. May you rest in peace Terry you will be missed by many. God Bless

Terry was my very first boyfriend back in Motley elementary. I feel blessed that we were able to catch up over the last year. I was able to share with him my music career, and we recalled a valentine he’d given me in grade school (a big one that read “two peas in a pod”). I couldn’t find a Valentine’s card like it over the last recent months, so I had one made and sent it to him that had the same saying. In it I told him how much he meant to me and that he always held a special place in my heart recalling an innocent and sweet time. I only hope he saw it, but at least I feel like he can see it now. My heart goes out to Michele, his Mom and children, and to all the family and friends who loved him.
I’ve known Terry for over 15 years having worked out of the same office suite with him . Terry and I became friends and would get together a few times a year to watch a game or more often go to a music venue and even karaoke after a beer or two. In later years another office mate , Jana , would join us , and we always had fun . Terry and I had an affinity for many types of music and shared our finds constantly through the internet .
I remember his sly smile and quick wit as well as his humanity. Terry was a very good man. I had the fortune to have a couple of email conversations with him , however brief , after his surgery. We talked of getting together after his recovery and about the tall tales we would make up over his scar . And we would have. I told him that he made me feel better about myself for simply considering me a friend. It was how I felt then and how I always will feel. The last time I saw him he sang the Eagles , Peaceful easy feeling in a small karaoke bar . I’ll never forget it and I’ll never forget him.
I DID NOT KNOW TERRY, BUT I KNOW AND LOVE BILL AND OPAL CATHEY AND KNOWING THIS IS THE SECOND SON OF OPAL DAVIS CATHEY. MY HEART ACHES FOR OPAL AND BILL. I BURIED MY 51 YEAR OLD SON LAST YEAR AND IT IS A HARD THING TO DO. BILL, THANK YOU FOR SHARING WITH US THIS SO VERY SAD NEWS. REST ASSURED OF OUR PRAYERS FOR YOU AND OPAL. PS 116: 15 LOVE IN CHRIST, LEWIS AND BOBBIE PRICE
Such a sweet and gentle soul. I never saw him without a smile on his face. My heart goes out to everyone who loved him. He “has slipped the surly bonds of earth, to touch the face of God”….
Judy
My condolences and prayers to the whole family. I am very very sorry
I had only met Terry a couple times when he came with Michele to visit her dad & I. However, I took an instant liking to him & felt like I had know him for years! It was so obvious how much he & Michele cared for each other. Terry wrote me the kindest note after they returned home. Something rare these days. I will treasure it always and wish i could have gotten to know him better. He certainly will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him!
I was so very, very saddened upon hearing this news. I want to get down on the floor and kick my feet and throw a temper tantrum that this has happened!! I go from sobbing to doubled-over laughing remembering the laughter and good times we shared. Was there ever any other emotion but happiness and laughter when you were with Terry? I met Bret (RIP) and Terry through a ‘fan club’ for Bob Schneider many years ago. We used to frequent Trees and other various haunts in Dallas and Austin. Terry and I and some friends attended ACL Festival in Austin before it became the mob scene it is now. I remember it raining and it was so hot and humid and the mud was horrific. None of that even bothered Terry, he kept us laughing and singing at the top of our lungs, in spite of the horrible weather. Always dancing in the rain, that guy. He never knew a stranger and all these posts are a testament to that with all the lives he touched. I hope his family and those closest to him find a bit of peace and comfort in that. I find peace in knowing that Terry did not hold back on life. He lived it to the fullest every single day. I had a dream about him the other night. I woke up and immediately went to Facebook to look him up because we hadn’t been in touch in a long time. It was there I had a message from a friend and then his daughter. I like to think he came to me in my dream that night to say goodbye. Because of this great loss, I hope to enjoy my life a little more as we have proof that life is short and growing old is a privilege denied to many. Thank you, Terry. My life was incredibly enriched because of your friendship and I was lucky to know you. Until we meet again my dearest friend, Cheers.
Terry, God has blessed you with a wonderful family & MANY great friends. But then again, we were blessed to have known you. I remember when we were skiing in Harmony bowl at Whistler, we dropped down into a steep section & you did a yard sale. Michelle had the right idea, & went around the steep section. I have a confession to make. While at Schweitzer I did a high speed HUGE yard sale. I was going so fast, only Mitch could keep up(almost). I know you weren’t there to see it, but the next time I see you, I owe you a beer. Take care my friend. U left us WAAAAAAY too soon.
Terry, you left without saying goodbye my friend. But, I forgive you because I know you were in pain and only wanted your friends to remember you with that big smile you always had. I enjoyed our talks and laughs while we were floating out on Lake Lewisville with Michelle always by your side. You two were the perfect couple and I only wish now that I had hung around you two, with Pamela of course, more often. I also wish I had gotten to ski with you just once, because I used to be the Club champion at doing “yard sales”, especially in front of big crowds.
Anyway, keep ’em laughing up in Heaven until the rest of us join you big guy. We love you and miss you down here.☹️
