Robert Marks “Bob” Dettman
March 28, 1922 – November 13, 2016
R.M. “Bob” Dettman of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016. Bob Dettman was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, on March 28, 1922, to Edwin Albert and Olive Marks Dettman. After graduating from Appleton High School, he attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he met Laverne Froula, his future wife. His schooling was interrupted with the outbreak of World War II and his enlistment in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was trained as fighter pilot and later served as an advanced instructor, teaching hundreds of pilots with the Army Air Corps. It was during his time in service that he married Laverne Froula Dettman on July 3, 1943. Following his military service, he graduated from business school and law school at the University of Wisconsin. He moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1951, where he enjoyed a successful business career and raised his family.
Bob Dettman is survived by his wife of 73 years, Laverne Marie Froula Dettman, and his three children and their spouses, Robert M. Dettman II and wife Barb of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, Mark Henry Dettman and wife Laquita of Midland, Texas, and Kimarie Dettman Short and husband Jim of Colleyville, Texas. He was also grandfather to Robin Dettman and Robert M. Dettman III and great grandfather to Leia, Beau, Arrow, and Keagan. Bob Dettman loved horses and enjoyed his extended family at White Rock Stables in Dallas, Texas, where he spent most every day for the past 30 years helping others to learn to ride and to enjoy the horsemanship that he loved so much.
He will be missed by his family and his countless friends, but Bob knew Jesus and he is in Heaven with our Father and our Lord and Savior, where he is joyful and awaits all who knew and loved him.

My father was dearly loved by my Mother and his children. He inspired me and was a great Dad. He’ll be so very missed by all. Love you Dad

Tim Pugliese says:

Kim, Miriam and I are lifting up you and your family in our prayers. One fine summer day, Tex Sr. and your dad were sitting in front of the upper barn, and as Trace pranced by they agreed, “If you don’t like that horse you don’t like ham and eggs!” We will think about your dad every time we saddle up. Happy Trails to a one-of-a-kind…Mr. Bob Dettman.

Belynda says:

My dad once worked w a mam named robt dettman as a cpa for bob niven. I’m helping my dad see if your dad is the same? My dad was Bob Graham.

I am thinking about The Dettman Family at this time. I know that he was admired by everyone. And I know that Kim loved her Dad so much. I remember him always being so young at heart and such a special man.

Jackie Brewer says:

Bob was a true “gentle” man that will be missed greatly. I was fortunate enough to spend time with him at White Rock stables when I was caring for my daughter’s horses while she was away at college. Lunch at Mexicali’s with him and Tex were special times.

TO Belynda – yes, that is my dad! I remember your dad well, please give him my regards –

Bob Dettman II says:

Its now been 2 weeks since my father’s passing and its only now really sinking in. I’m so very glad that I had one more chance to talk to him one more time before he entered into his last long slumber and tell him that I truely loved him. Miss you so much Dad!

Louise Busack Rokos says:

Our loving thoughts are with you, my Dettman cousins, during this very sad time. Many years have passed since I was privileged to visit with Bob and LaVerne, but I will always have happy memories of those times. Bob was a very special caring person and a rare breed: a true gentleman. He will certainly be missed by all who knew him.

Sharon Grass says:

I just learned of Bob’s passing today. I am so sorry to hear this news. He was a client of mine, and a good friend for many years. My fondest remembrance is when he sent me flowers after winning a case I was handling for him. My thoughts and prayer are with all of the family.

Connie Sherrill says:

Mr. Dettman lived in our neighborhood and was a very kind man.
Every time I walk by his house, I will think of him and his smile. Nice to know he knew Jesus as his Savior. Prayers for his family.

Excellent customer service, they made you feel like you were their only customer. Very helpful and explained what we should expect during the process. They basically took care of our needs during this time. They contacted DFW National Cemetery for us which made it a smooth experience. Definitely will use them again.
