Obituary

A Memorial service to celebrate the life of Roger Ray Burnham, age 78, of Frisco, Texas will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 19, 2016 at ARIA Memorial Chapel in Dallas. Raised on a family farm in Iowa he graduated from High School in Pleasantville where he married the Homecoming Queen Kay Vodochodskyy (Carter). Attending college he graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Iowa State University and worked for Case tractors and Studebaker (Rick states “for those that know me, well it’s his fault because when born I was brought home from the hospital in a factory supercharged, over driven Studebaker Hawk”). He culminated his career as head of research and development at Lennox Industries. Retiring at 57 years old allowed Roger to travel extensively and remained very active after moving to Tucson, AZ after remarrying (Donna Carson) where he led hikes in the mountains. Eventually finding his way back to Texas he settled along the Brazos River at Pecan Plantation in Granbury. There he continued to wear out his walking shoes spending time with friends and of course the dogs. At 75 years old his grandson Christopher Burnham and son, Rick once rode 12 miles on bikes with him to neighboring Godley just to eat a Subway sandwich and return …this was his habit several days a week for years, yes twelve miles each way in his 70’s! One of his favorite places on earth was Silver Dollar City, Missouri…in fact his son Rick has realized that’s the perfect part of the country to spread his ashes in remembrance. The family started going there when Terry was seven and Rick was ten starting in 1972, he also traveled there many times on his own. As the years went by Terry and Rick had families and they all returned with Dad and his grandkids, Danielle and Christopher. For those that lost track of Roger the last two years, he suffered a series of mini strokes that required living assistance. While the analytical thinking he was known for was gone it was amazing and consoling that his humor remained along with his mannerisms. And yes he remained active still laying down miles on his shoes. After breaking his hip recently Rick wondered if somehow, someway inside he just wasn’t willing to slow down and instead slipped away on his own terms. Preceded in death by his mother, father and sister (Raymond, Edris and Patsy) and survived by his beloved sons Terry Burnham and Rick Burnham; precious grandchildren, Danielle and Christopher as well as my cousins Christa Rodriguez and Carl who I believe is in Minneapolis and his cousin and life long friend Diane Cromwell Pena; also stepchildren, Steven and Robbie Carson and grandchild, Caitlyn Carson. Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
