Harold Eugene Faulkner Sr.

Harold Eugene Faulkner Sr, a longtime resident of Dallas, TX, passed away Sunday December 4, 2016. Harold passed away from complications due to Alzheimer’s while in hospice care at Presbyterian Hospital. He was 86 years old.

Harold was born on February 13, 1930, in Seminole, Oklahoma. He was the son of Roy Walter and Lela Rae (Alexander) Faulkner, and the brother of Marcella (Faulkner) Polk Derrick. He graduated from White Oak High School in 1948, and while in school he began a life-long love of photography. After high school Harold joined the Navy, serving as part of the sonar team on a destroyer. When he came home from the Navy Harold enrolled in college, beginning his collegiate career at Kilgore Junior College. He also married his first wife – Loretta Jo Kunkel. In addition to his electronics courses he continued his passion for photography, and was the photographer for the world famous Kilgore Rangerettes. Harold transferred to The University of Texas at Austin around 1956. Harold graduated UT with a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and began a career in the electronics industry, working for several major electronics firms during that career. One of his best loved positions was his work at General Dynamics, in Fort Worth, TX, where he worked on one of the radar systems for the Air Force B-58 ‘Hustler”. The B-58 was his favorite airplane of all time. His electronics career also included work on the Army anti-ballistic missile system called the “Nike Zeus” in the 1960’s. It was during this time period that Harold’s second great passion developed – pistol shooting. Harold was a fantastic marksman with a pistol, and his skills were well known in Texas and the surrounding states. A life-long member of the National Rifle Association he earned the rank of Distinguished Master (the highest shooting rank offered by the NRA). Harold met and married his current wife, Helen, in 1974. In the 1970’s and on through the end of his life Harold devoted his time to photography, running his own company, and spending time with his family. Harold would often travel to Death Valley and other locales, many times with photographers from leading film and camera companies.

Harold is survived by his wife Helen (Grabowski) McDonald Faulkner; his former wife Loretta Jo (Kunkel) Faulkner; his sister Marcella (Faulkner) Polk Derrick; his son Harold Eugene Faulkner, JR, and his wife Jody (Hill) Faulkner and their children Whitney Jo Faulkner, Meghan Rae Faulkner, Harrison Burke Faulkner; and his daughter Jo Gayle (Faulkner) Dupre and her son Matthew Daniels.
