Harger, Janet
Obituary
Janet Miller (Harger) was born on the sweltering summer day of June 25th, 1935 in historic San Antonio, Texas. She passed from this world to heaven on January 14, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the second born of four children and the only daughter of her mama, Ruth Young Miller, and her daddy, Lawrence Miller. Janet grew up in the Gulf Coast town of Galveston, Texas with her three brothers—Jimmy, Norm, and Tommy. She graduated from Galveston Ball High School with the class of 1953. Her wedding to Patt Karr Harger occurred on June 22nd, 1957 and she received her Diploma of Nursing from UT School of Nursing the next year in 1958. For many subsequent years, she worked for Dr. Garland Wellman in Texas City. During the years of 1958-’62, Janet gave birth to three children—Don, Deanna, and Daylyn. She worked in the operating room of Galveston County Memorial Hospital as head nurse and later in the operating room of Danforth Hospital. Jan moved to Dallas in 1982 and worked at Greenville Surgery Center, Walnut Place Rehab and Nursing Home, and finally spent the final decade of her career at Voice of Hope Ministry in West Dallas as the kid’s favorite, Nurse Janet. She retired from Voice of Hope in 2000 at 65 years of age. Janet was an incredibly good humored woman beloved of nearly anyone who crossed her path. She had a gift for filling up a room with smiles and laughter simply by being herself.
She will be deeply missed by the family she leaves behind: her brothers and sisters-in-law, Norm “Bubba” and Anne Miller, Tommy and Scottie Miller; her children and their spouses, Don and Cherri Harger, Deanna and Arnold Morales, Daylyn Harger and Lisa Hyman; her grandchildren and their spouses, Desiree and Sonny Thornhill, Jessica and Kelley Theisen, Cody and Whitney Harger, Joshua and Jessica Morales, Courtney and John Carpenter, Jenni and Ross Ferrans; and great-grandchildren, Gianna, Nicolette, and Soelee Thornhill, Wolfgang Theisen and Lyralee TuCrow, Hutchinson and Emmerson Harger, and Eston Carpenter. In heaven, Janet joined her elder brother, Jimmy, and his wife, Corky, her mother and daddy, Ruth and Lawrence Miller, as well as the father of her children, Patt Harger, and most importantly, her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
