Alice Anderson Haslam, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2017.  She was born January 9, 1932 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to the late David Purdy and Alice Purdy.  She grew up in Belfast with her father, David and her siblings, David (brother), Iris (sister) and Margaret (sister).  In 1955, Alice immigrated to Toronto Canada with her close friends, Maude and Robert Agnew and their son Gary.  While in Toronto, she met the love of her life, Peter Haslam.

Peter and Alice were married on June 6, 1959.  They had their first child, Geoffrey Peter, on August 18, 1960.  In 1962, the family moved to Rochester, New York and eventually settled in Fairport, New York.  They had their second child, Judith Alice on July 17, 1964 and their third child, David James on October 1, 1969.  They lived happily there until 1983, when they moved to Plano, Texas.

Alice was proud to be a stay at home mother until 1981, when she went back to work as an executive secretary in New York and Texas.  She retired in 1997 and spent time with her grandchildren, Joseph Ryan and Eric Michael and traveled the world with Peter and her family.  Alice was a self-taught gourmet cook and was a wonderful hostess and friend.  She was very active, participating in many sports and was a loyal member of CURVES.  She had a sharp wit and sharp mind.

Alice was preceded in death by her father, David, her sister, Margaret and brother, David.  Alice is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Peter; her son Geoffrey and wife, Julie; her son David and wife, Susan; her daughter Judith and husband, George and her two grandsons Joseph and Eric.  She is also survived by her sister, Iris Purdy of Belfast, Northern Ireland as well as many relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers at the Tradition Memory Care and Home Helpers for helping care for Alice in her final months.

I will always remember Judy's mom Alice as a strong and smart lady with a wicked sense of humor and a quick wit. She taught our Girl Scout troop how to make Shepherd's Pie. Alice will certainly be missed by many.

My thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.

I have often referred to Alice as my "Texas Mom" and am deeply saddened by her passing. She was such a warm, inviting and big personality. And these traits live on in her children! My condolences to Peter and the entire Haslam and Heike families. My heart is with you all.
Love, Lynn

Our family was so saddened to hear of the passing of your dear wife and mother. Alice and I were best friends for over 50 years, and we also shared so many happy memories as families. We often speak about our so many fun vacations we all had at Fifth Depot Lake in Canada! Heidi and Eric prize those precious memories and often share them with their children. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
