Shiner, Mary Lou
Obituary
Mary Lou Shiner, born in Oak Park, IL in 1939, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Still beautiful and sharp as a tack, she was 77 years young, and despite her healthy lifestyle, spent the last 9 months with interstitial lung disease. She fought to stay with her beloved family, but finally knew it was time to rest and be with the Lord. Mary Lou grew up in Dallas, attended Woodrow Wilson High School, and then SMU where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She later graduated from University of Houston with a degree in Education. She became a mother and a realtor in California in the 1960’s and moved back to Dallas where she taught at Travis Elementary. Later, she became a successful business woman and owner of Kaufman-Shiner Realtors and Mary Lou Shiner Realtors. Mary Lou will be remembered as loving, thoughtful, generous, smart, funny, devoted, positive, hard-working, dedicated Christian, good friend, and even better mother and grandmother, known as “Nana”. She was respected and loved by those that knew her and always encouraged the people she touched to work hard and play hard. She loved traveling and especially treasured creating memories in her favorite vacation destination of Lake City, Colorado, where she enjoyed one of her favorite hobbies, fly fishing. She appreciated nature and everything it had to offer. She was creative in all endeavors and found great pleasure in being an avid gardener. Mary Lou found joy in giving and made a positive impact to all that knew her. She was a longtime contributor to the Ark House and impacted lives through her ministry and support with her grandchildren of The Network of Richardson. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Terri and Mark Brezette, Jennifer and Steve Smets, and Jeff and Amanda Shiner, and her six grand children whom she adored, Brooke and her husband Jimmy, Ben, Nathan, Will, Lauren, and Jesse. A celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church Richardson, 503 N Central Expressway, Richardson, Texas 75080 on Monday, February 13, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. Donations can be made to Ark House, P.O.
