Cox, Carol Imogene "Jean"
Obituary
Jean was born on December 18, 1931 in Hope, AR to Clyde J. and Otis (Gleghorn) Arnold. Jean graduated Hope High School in 1950. After marrying in 1954 at the First Baptist Church, Jean moved from Hope to Waco, TX to join her husband William J. ‘Bill’ Cox, Jr. Over the course of the next several years Bill and Jean had their children. During early married life, Jean was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker – performing all the requisite ‘mom’ duties including, but not limited to: PTA President, CABC YWA Leader, Girl Scout Cookie Chairman and YWCA Swim Instructor. It was during this time that the family enjoyed the outdoors including Texas’ Colorado River, specifically Gorman Falls. Once introduced, through Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, to many of McLennan County’s deaf and hearing impaired, Jean became personally, professionally and academically active with this community – ultimately retiring from Central Texas Council for the Deaf/Hearing Impaired as their Coordinator. Following retirement, Bill and Jean enjoyed motor homing with their Waco friends and traveling with family. Jean also enjoyed years of serving on the Waco Federation of Women’s Club Board with friend Carol Kolb. Jean was passionate regarding her genealogical work on the Arnold and Cox families. Jean entered into rest on May 25, 2017. Jean is preceded in death by: daughter Carolinda Cox (1958), sister-in-law Benja L. (Seale) Arnold (2000), brother William R. ‘Bill’ Arnold (2002), sister-in-law Joy L. (Collins) Arnold (2004), husband Bill Cox (2008), brother-in-law R. Dale Hubbard (2015), son Wm. Joel Cox III (2015) and grandson Daniel M. Reierson (2016). Jean is survived by: daughter Barbara G. (Cox) Maley and son-in-law Samuel G. ‘Sam’ Maley; sister Sylvia D. (Arnold) Hubbard; brother Clyde J. ‘Buddy’ Arnold; granddaughter Tiffinee L. (Cox) Hart and husband John Hart; great-grandchildren: John Jr., Sarah, Josalyn, Maddie and Samuel; nieces and nephew: India, Ann, Bill, Clyda, Lee Ann, Fern, Amy and Brandi; as well as their spouses and children. The family gratefully acknowledges kindnesses extended by Terri Nix (lovingly referred to as ‘daughter #2’) and the staff and residents of CHRISTUS St. Joseph Village, Coppell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to: Buckner International at 700 N. Pearl Street, Suite 1200, Dallas, TX 75201-2874; Gideon’s International at P. O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800; or a charity of your choice. At a later time, Jean’s cremated remains will be buried in the Garden of Faith at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Hope, AR.
