Shidler, Tamara L.

August 7, 1959 - June 1, 2017

Tamara “Tammy” Lynn Shidler passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 1st after an extended and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.   Tammy was at the home she cherished with the family she loved when she died.

Tammy was born August 7, 1959, in Salem, Oregon to parents Donald and Elaine Wiley and was raised in Keizer, OR.  She graduated from McNary High School in 1977.   She played on the McNary tennis team.

Her first year of college was spent at Westmont in Santa Barbara, CA.  She transitioned to Willamette University in Salem, OR., where she graduated with a BA degree in Economics.  Tammy was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority on the Willamette campus and served two terms as president of the sorority.

After graduation, Tammy went to work for Copeland Lumber Company.  She transitioned to M Financial Insurance Company and later became the business manager for an Insurance consulting firm.

She married Kyle Shidler in 1983.  They were blessed with two wonderful children, Stacie C. Shidler, born in 1987 and Samuel A. Shidler born in 1991.

Tammy had an adventuress spirit and supported the family through multiple corporate relocations, first from Oregon to California, California to Albuquerque, NM, Albq. to Las Vegas, NV, finally settling in Plano, TX in 2000.

It was in Plano where she rekindled her passion for tennis.  She played at Prestonwood Country club and moved to Gleneagles Country Club in 2007.  Tammy was active in the TCD league, Tennis Competitors of Dallas, serving on the Board of Directors, Treasurer, and the Rules committee.  Many life friends were built in the tennis community

Besides tennis, Tammy enjoyed cooking, homemaking, reading, especially novels, spending time with her family and friends and “patio talk”.    Tammy was always the ‘glue’ bringing people and groups together.   She was a natural organizer.   Tammy was incredibly devoted to her family.  Stacie graduated from TCU with a BS degree in Advertising and Public Relations, Sam graduated from Texas A&M with a BS degree in Applied Mathematics.  In May 2016, Tammy planned a lovely garden wedding at the family home for daughter, Stacie, and her husband Derek Martin.

Tammy is survived by her husband of nearly 35 years, Kyle Shidler, her daughter, Stacie Martin, son-in law Derek Martin, son Samuel Shidler, parents, Don and Elaine Wiley, brother Andrew Wiley and sister-in law Lauren Wiley.

The family’s deepest thanks go to Dr. Alan Munoz and the team of nurses, Michelle, Stephani and Maria that helped her wage a battle against ovarian cancer and unquestionably extended her life.   Tammy fought fearlessly, focusing on beating the disease.  She was always optimistic about her treatments and outcomes.

A private service will be held for the immediate family.  A ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held at Gleneagles Country Club on Thursday, June 8th at 6:30PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to 1 Million 4 Anna in the fight against Ewing’s Sarcoma.  The website is
