Obituary

Crosby, William Reginald, age 70, died Friday, June 30, 2017 after a hard battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 8, at 1:00pm at Lakeridge Bible Church, 1020 Northwest Drive, in Mesquite. He was born August 2, 1946 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Bill and Odessa Crosby. He attended the University of Oklahoma, majoring in art. William was an accomplished cartoonist, sculptor, and graphic artist. He retired from the Texas Department of Transportation after over 30 years of service, and spent the last 12 years of his career as a consultant in construction management. However, anyone who knew him knew that his lifelong passion was drag racing. His interest began in the late 1950’s and continued throughout his life; culminating with the restoration and campaigning of Bobby Langley’s Scorpion V AA-FD. He played an integral part in growing the cackle car community, and keeping drag racing history alive. He is survived by his mother, Odessa Crosby, of Ardmore, Oklahoma; wife, Gail Crosby, of Mesquite; children, James Crosby, Tina Griffin, Blake Crosby, and Brittany Murphy; and grandchildren, Jacinda Crosby and Kirsten Griffin.

I am so saddened to hear this news of Bill’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I grew up in Ardmore and we were friends, I always knew him as Reggie. He was a fine young man. I am particularly thinking of Odessa during this time of loss. Prayers.

Dearest Gail, remember that to mourn with a Christian mourning is to let God gather up your tears and save them to nourish future joys. I’m praying for you and the family. Barbara (& Duane) Lindsey.

I had the pleasure of being Bill’s friend for almost 50 years and working with him for 40 of those years at TxDOT, PBS&J and Atkins NA. Bill was an accomplished surveyor, auditor and ENV and CM inspector working on many of the most significant transportation projects in the Dallas area during his career. I also got to serve with Bill for more than 20 years on the Board of Directors of the OU Club of Dallas where he tirelessly helped enable it to grow into the largest OU Club in the county. He served as President of the Club in 1995 and grew the OU/TX Game Day BarBQ to historic proportions which provided the OU Pride Band numerous scholarships. He will be desperately missed by all Sooners and many friends like me.

So many great memories of Bill, at TXDOT in the Construction Office, at Atkins, then finally at BGE. He gave me one of his famous caricatures when i left Dallas for Waco, then a second one when i left Atkins for BGE. They both hang in very visible locations in our home. He was generous in his time and friendship to all. And of course was always willing to talk about his latest meet where the dragster was displayed. He will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.

Ever since Friday morning, I have laughed and cried and done at the same time! Very few cousins get to be as close and share as many memories as we did!! I know we were near perfect babies, toddlers, and even teenagers. Well, I do remember a few times Grandma Crosby didn’t think we were so perfect, love you and memories abound!

Even though distance has separated us for 13yrs,I have such great memories of times together. We vacationed as couples and helped raise children together among other things too numerous to name. I already miss Bill and know that he is in heaven with our Lord and Savior and we will see him once again.

I was on a survey crew in the late 60″s WITH Reg.
Along with Pete Johnson of Madill, Clyde Mav Gleson of Madill, and Carlos Cole of Baum,OK.
We surveyed I-35 for several months.
Reg and I became friends as were the youngest in the office at Ardmore. About 60 men worked that office.
Later when Reg went to Dallas he was sent to OKC to do inspection work on side walks. He contacted me and we ate at some restaurants once each week. We took turns picking and paying.
Great man, great friend and I already miss him!!!!!!
Carlos told me yesterday he and I were the only ones left on that crew.

We were so saddened to hear of “Uncle Reg’s” lost battle. He introduced us to Welsh Corgis, taught my kids how to carve the best jack o lanterns, and was the best cartoonist I knew! God bless you all!

I did not have the pleaseure of meeting Mr. Crosby as I started to work at TxDOT 1 hear after he retired, but I am sure that he was well loved by our TxDOT Family. I wanted to express my condolences to the Crosby Family for the loss of your son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. It must be very difficult to lose such a precious gift. I know that he will hold a very special place in your hearts forever.

“Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that were I am, there ye may be also.”
    John 14:1-3

There are no words that I can express to comfort you but that which comes from my Lord and Savior.

“The LORD is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
    Psalms 34:18

Your family will be in my prayers.

    In Christ,

    Laura I. Rodriguez

I feel I have lots of friends in the TxDOT family but Bill was one of the very special ones. Talented, funny, serious when needed, and full of OU. Being a UT guy, when October rolled around, it did get a little “serious”. Loved every minute of it & always appreciated Bill. I recall our TxDOT Dallas battle with the EPA and the diligence with which he worked. Always there. Always will be in our wonderful memories.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
