Watson, Deborah June
Obituary
On Saturday evening, July 1, 2017, Deborah June Watson transitioned peacefully from the arms of her children and sister into the arms of our Savior Jesus Christ. The passing of Debbie – mother, grandmother, sister and friend – leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who knew and loved her, especially in the lives of her four children. Known as a woman of immense strength on behalf of her family, and non-judgmental compassion and warmth for friends and strangers alike, her legacy will be deeply imbedded in the many lives she touched. Debbie transitioned to Heaven following a nearly three-year battle with cancer. Debbie was born on December 4, 1949 in Dallas, Texas with dark hair and big dark brown eyes that she passed on to her daughters. She was the second daughter of the late Raymond and Essie Allen of Dallas, and only sibling to sister Linda Rada. She was raised in East Dallas and was a proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School alongside classmates that she reconnected with in recent years to enjoy social evenings dancing at the Balcony Club in Lakewood Village. She loved to dance. Debbie was a caretaker to innumerable children apart from her own for almost thirty years, providing peace to parents who preferred the comfort and security of Debbie’s home. Debbie, through amazing strength, was a single mother to four beloved children – Amy Spencer, twins Julie Linn and Blake Linn, and Courtney Nolte. She was a selfless and sacrificial mother who served the role as both mother and father in one person, and created rich memories for her children. Her children fondly remember family vacations to the beach and mountains, and the hilarious road trips that accompanied each destination. Her most recent vacation with her daughters fostered memories that will last a lifetime, to include time exploring and eating their way through San Francisco, Napa and Half Moon Bay. And a recent Easter weekend at the lake brought the entire family together once again for a special weekend. Debbie reconnected with high school beau Bill Watson in 1996 and they married in 1999. Her family fully embraced Bill, and she cared for him through his own battle with cancer leading up to his passing in 2009. Bill and Debbie enjoyed time road tripping in his Corvette, and they loved to host friends in their home, entertaining with food and wine. Debbie’s most enjoyable role in her life was that of “Mimi” to nine unique, vivacious grandchildren – Mikayla (16), Zachary (13), Dayton (13), Caden (12), Blakeley (11), Taeghan (8), Pierce (6), Lincoln (4), and Baylor (4 weeks). Her grandchildren adored her. She was a caretaker to her daughters’ children, and she often traveled to Arkansas to visit her son’s children. Her greatest joy was to attend her grandchildren’s dance, sports and band events, and to give them gifts. True to her nature, even as her life drew to a close, she still reminded her children to give the grandchildren money to buy special gifts – a t-shirt from church camp in Colorado or a college visit to Texas A&M, a new summer swimsuit for the boys, and newborn gifts for little Baylor. The many children apart from her own that she cared for in her home also called her Mimi. Her caretaking legacy is expansive. Debbie’s courageous battle with cancer was supported by physicians that she and her children would love to recognize – Dr. Dai Chu Luu and Dr. Jeremy Denning of Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, and Dr. Randi Dubiel of Baylor Institute of Rehabilitation. Debbie’s family invites all to attend a service to celebrate her life on Tuesday, July 11th at 2 pm at All Saints Dallas Anglican Church (2733 Oak Lawn, Dallas TX 75219). Guests are invited to visit with the family and friends at a reception immediately following the service at Debbie’s favorite social spot, The Balcony Club in Lakewood Village (1825 Abrams Road, Dallas TX 75214). If you feel led to donate to Debbie’s memory in lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the American Cancer Society at the following link: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/Deborah_June_Watson. The prayers and notes from friends and family sustained Debbie and her family for the past few challenging months, for which all are very grateful. Debbie was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. She will be greatly missed by many and I will certainly miss visiting with her at social events and Balcony Club. Prayers for all the family as you adjust to life without her here with you but I believe she will continue watching over you all. Love, Don & Linda Henderson
We loved being part of your extended family while you were growin up and we loved being friends with Debbie. So many great memories. God bless you all with peace and comfort. Much love!
Carol and I are heartbroken at the loss of our dear friend. Debbie was unique with a heart as big as Texas! She always had a ready smile and hug for her buddies and we will miss her so. We pray that her family will be comforted at this difficult time with the knowledge that she was loved by so many. Some people ask us Wildcats about “Woodrow Spirit ” Debbie Watson embodied it. Warm, fun loving and caring, she was loved by all.
