Allison, Sheryll Ann
Obituary
Sheryll Ann Allison, 65, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2017, surrounded by family at her home in Murphy, Texas. Sheryll was born on January 11, 1952, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to John Ellis Stein and Dorothy Marie Stein. Sheryll moved often in her childhood, and spent time in Wyoming, Denver, Houston, Mobile, and Dallas. She graduated from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, Texas in 1970. After high school, Sheryll attended Eastfield Junior College, where she met her future husband, Thomas Allison. She later transferred and graduated from UTMB in Galveston, Texas. Over the next 30 years, Sheryll worked as the Director of Medical Records at hospitals in Houston, TX, Washington, D.C., and Falls Church, VA. Thomas asked Sheryll’s father for her hand in marriage, and on August 16, 1975 she married the love of her life at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Dallas, TX. Sheryll and Thomas were happily married for a remarkably adventurous 42 years. Sheryll was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed mystery novels. On the weekends, when she wasn’t spending time at her daughter’s soccer games, softball, or track meets, she could be found in the garden caring for her flowers. Those who knew Sheryll, also know she was a devoted animal lover who cared greatly for her miniature schnauzers. Sheryll was preceded in death by her father, John Stein. Sheryll is survived by her spouse Thomas Allison; her daughter, Jennifer Swank and her husband, Ryan Swank; her mother, Dorothy Stein; her sister, Diane Stein; brothers Dennis Stein and his wife, Nancy; Joseph Stein and his wife Annie; nieces, Jessica Whiteman, Jasmine Watson, and Melanie Lo; and nephews Zachary Stein, Jacob Stein, and Colin Stein. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 S. Jupiter Road, Richardson, TX. Rosary will be at 1:00 P.M., followed by mass at 1:30 P.M. Interment will follow at the Church Columbarium. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at a reception at the church following the internment. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Animal Welfare Institute at awionline.org. Dear Uncle Tom and Jen,
I would like to offer my deepest condolences to you both. I was deeply saddened to hear that Aunt Sherry had passed away, but at the same time I was thankful not only that she has been spared any further pain—after fighting for so long—but also that she departed with all the people she loved best in this world surrounding her. Aunt Sherry was strong, caring, generous, and funny, all of the best qualities a kid could ask for in their aunt. Whenever you all visited Colorado, I remember that she went out of her way to include me in your guys’ adventures and outings, and our shared experiences together as a family are some of my happiest childhood memories. Some vivid highlights are when you let me tag along for your tour of Golden, and the famous Coors Brewery! And Jen, the first time I ever heard N’Sync was in your mom and dad’s rental car; it speaks to your mom’s amazing patience (and yours also) that she let her ten-year-old niece play “Bye Bye Bye” on loop during an hour-long car trip! I always appreciated how Aunt Sherry took such an avid interest in us kids, and what we were doing and accomplishing; her presence at all our various soccer, basketball, and baseball games, as well as our graduations, meant so much to me. I will miss Sherry very much, and my prayers and best thoughts are with you, Tom and Jen, during this difficult time. All my love to you both.
I remember the days we spent together in Owensville, Missouri. I am truly sorry that we did not maintain a relationship after we reached adulthood. I am looking forward to meeting your daughter and her husband. I am sure you had a beautiful life. I am sorry it could not have been longer. Enjoy enternal life. I will always remember you.
I love you and miss you so so much. You will always be in my heart. Goodbye for now my sweetie.
May you walk where the dogs run free on the other side of the rainbow. So long for now my friend. Joe and Marlene Bare
My dearest sister, I am very sad we will not be talking for hours or texting as we have all these years- since you did teach me a lot especially using Emogis. I loved your recent inclusion of tiny video clips that clearly expressed your feelings- some to laugh about & some to bring tears! Alas ..but my heart feels at peace that you no longer will be fighting the ugly cancer. You have shown true courage, grace and mostly “quiet” acceptance of this “life challenge”. I am not sure if I could do what you have experienced these last 4 years but I am honored to have you as the best sister anyone could ever had! I am grateful for all the different childhood, teenage & adult adventures we experienced or shared over phone calls or visits! Sharing chores as kids- you washed dishes & I rinsed or you rinsed & I loaded the dishwasher. Plus our nightly giggles & long conversations that had Dad saying ” shut up & go to sleep”. Ahh, so many of those stories…lodged forever in my heart!!
To Tom, Jenn & Ryan- you are also in my heart, prayers & thoughts as we live each day now with loving memories of Sherry. She will be with us in spirit always! Heaven has all her beloved pups, kitties, birds, gardens, family members & & new adventures until we meet again!! Aunt Diane & Maddie
