Mullins, Holly Grace

January 24, 1956 - September 15, 2017

Holly Grace Mullins, 61, of Plano, Texas, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017. She is survived by her son, Perry, his wife, Sarah, and their son, Lucas; her mother Hope; her brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Janet; her nephew, Casey, his wife Jackie, and their children, Jaxson, Ethan, and Ella. Holly is preceded in death by her husband, Jon, and their daughter, Amber, as well as her father, Harry.

Holly was born on January 24, 1956 to Harry and Hope Vayro in a small town in southern Maryland, where she grew up. In 1982, she settled down there and was married to her husband, Jon, and they had two children together. Holly worked as a teacher, and then ran a small daycare out of her home until 1996, when she moved to Dallas. She again worked as an early childhood teacher until she was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2013.

Holly was best known for her deep love for children, especially those she taught. She spent her weekends planning game and craft ideas and going to the library to pick out books for her classes. To see her come alive with a group of children was an incredible experience. She also loved to cook, and was known for her pie crust and crab cakes, among other things. Her food was not known for being particularly healthy, but there were rarely complaints. Holly was also a dedicated member of her church, serving on the altar guild and attending faithfully for years. She was kind-hearted and caring, and she had a contagious joy in her heart. Holly will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 21st at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in Plano (2200 18th St., Plano, Texas 75074). In lieu of flowers, donations in Holly’s memory may be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (, or to Holy Nativity Episcopal Church.

I was moved to read and learn about this special lady who was 13 days younger than me, and like me, loved to care for family and friends through her cooking! May the Lord be with her spirit and with all who knew and loved her.

Kathy Morgan says:

I was saddened to hear about Miss Holly’s passing. My daughter was at the Plano daycare for six years and loved her. She was a great lady and teacher.

Roberta Short says:

I just became aware of both Holly and Hope’s passing today. I am so saddened over the loss of these beautiful and caring ladies. I knew them both since Holly was a teenager. My sister Janet married Tommy. I mourn your loss but I am sure God has welcomed them as they are a blessing to all. Roberta Short & Family

Excellent customer service, they made you feel like you were their only customer. Very helpful and explained what we should expect during the process. They basically took care of our needs during this time. They contacted DFW National Cemetery for us which made it a smooth experience. Definitely will use them again.
