Obituary
James “Jim” Kern McCarty was born to Paul W. McCarty and America June McCarty on 17 September 1943 in Weld County, Colorado the youngest of 4 surviving children. He was baptized on 1 July 1951 in Greeley, CO. He lived in Irving, Texas and was 74 years old when he died in Dallas, Texas on 10 October 2017 at Medical City Dallas following an acute stroke affecting his brain stem resulting in near complete paralysis. Jim is an honorably discharged veteran of the US Naval Service where he served as an Airman (AN E-3) in a Fire and Damage Control Department aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Ranger (CVA-61) between 24 February 1961 and 29 July 1964. On 20 May 1964 Jim was initiated into the Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep, by “Crossing the Line” becoming a trusted Shellback in Imperium Neptuni Regis – “The Empire of King Neptune”. Jim spent a year traveling the country on a Magazine Sales crew, settling in Irving, Texas. Jim worked as a Machinist with Otis Engineering for several years. In August 1971 joined the National Elevator Industry, and Dallas and Fort Worth I.U.E.C. Local 21, advancing over the next 27 years to the respected positions of Mechanic and Adjuster. Jim retired from Otis Elevator Company in December 1998. Jim was married to Margaret Decker from 24 April 1966 to 7 May 1971. Jim married Geraldine “Gerry” Gillespie McCarty on 5 November 1971. Jim is a wonderful husband and father. He has a natural gift for understanding people, and cutting through to the heart of a matter. He is always at his best as a teacher and story teller. He is a devout Christian evidencing his faith through hours of discussion of the endless love of Jesus Christ. He has the “Tuffy” exterior and frame of a Gorilla, but a heart of gold and tenderness towards those he has loved throughout the years. Jim avidly enjoys wood working, reading, automobile mechanics, guns and cooking, among a variety of eclectic interests. He has always driven himself to be his very best in every endeavor.. Jim is survived by wife Gerry McCarty of Irving, TX; children Erik McCarty and Priscilla of Irving, TX, Kathryn “Kati” McCarty and Ray of Argyle, TX, and Shelly Bishop of Irving, TX; grand-children Jessica (McCarty) Espinoza and Luis of Tucson, AZ, Leahblair Jackson and Josh of Grand Prairie, TX, and Chadwick Jackson II and Sarah of Talent, OR; five great grand-daughters: Cadence Selah Espinoza, Adele Marianna Espinoza, Alyson Leah-Rose Horn, Lumen Eyer Reign Jackson, and one “bun in the oven”; brother John McCarty; and sisters Eileen Wullschleger and Ellen White. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Paul W. McCarty and America June McCarty. Please send the family condolences and sign the guest book on this site. I have many fond memories of Jim, “Tuffy” raising his voice at me on an elevator repair job. It was always done in good taste and made me a better mechanic. He will be truly missed and was a great friend. My prayers go out to his family. Jim Murnan
