Obituary

James “Jim” Kern McCarty was born to Paul W. McCarty and America June McCarty on 17 September 1943 in Weld County, Colorado the youngest of 4 surviving children. He was baptized on 1 July 1951 in Greeley, CO. He lived in Irving, Texas and was 74 years old when he died in Dallas, Texas on 10 October 2017 at Medical City Dallas following an acute stroke affecting his brain stem resulting in near complete paralysis. Jim is an honorably discharged veteran of the US Naval Service where he served as an Airman (AN E-3) in a Fire and Damage Control Department aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Ranger (CVA-61) between 24 February 1961 and 29 July 1964. On 20 May 1964 Jim was initiated into the Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep, by “Crossing the Line” becoming a trusted Shellback in Imperium Neptuni Regis – “The Empire of King Neptune”. Jim spent a year traveling the country on a Magazine Sales crew, settling in Irving, Texas. Jim worked as a Machinist with Otis Engineering for several years. In August 1971 joined the National Elevator Industry, and Dallas and Fort Worth I.U.E.C. Local 21, advancing over the next 27 years to the respected positions of Mechanic and Adjuster. Jim retired from Otis Elevator Company in December 1998. Jim was married to Margaret Decker from 24 April 1966 to 7 May 1971.  Jim married Geraldine “Gerry” Gillespie McCarty on 5 November 1971. Jim is a wonderful husband and father. He has a natural gift for understanding people, and cutting through to the heart of a matter. He is always at his best as a teacher and story teller. He is a devout Christian evidencing his faith through hours of discussion of the endless love of Jesus Christ. He has the “Tuffy” exterior and frame of a Gorilla, but a heart of gold and tenderness towards those he has loved throughout the years. Jim avidly enjoys wood working, reading, automobile mechanics, guns and cooking, among a variety of eclectic interests. He has always driven himself to be his very best in every endeavor.. Jim is survived by wife Gerry McCarty of Irving, TX; children Erik McCarty and Priscilla of Irving, TX, Kathryn “Kati” McCarty and Ray of Argyle, TX, and Shelly Bishop of Irving, TX; grand-children Jessica (McCarty) Espinoza and Luis of Tucson, AZ, Leahblair Jackson and Josh of Grand Prairie, TX, and Chadwick Jackson II and Sarah of Talent, OR; five great grand-daughters: Cadence Selah Espinoza, Adele Marianna Espinoza, Alyson Leah-Rose Horn, Lumen Eyer Reign Jackson, and one “bun in the oven”; brother John McCarty; and sisters Eileen Wullschleger and Ellen White.  Jim is preceded in death by his parents Paul W. I have many fond memories of Jim, “Tuffy” raising his voice at me on an elevator repair job. It was always done in good taste and made me a better mechanic. He will be truly missed and was a great friend. My prayers go out to his family. Jim Murnan

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
