Obituary

Maggie was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on July 29, 1944, to Thomas and Geraldine Gayle. She grew up in Gueydan, Louisiana, and graduated valedictorian of her high school class. She attended St. Thomas University in Houston where she earned a B.A. in math and where she met Rick, her beloved husband of nearly 52 years. Maggie loved God and spent the majority of her adult life in service to the Catholic Church. She led the Adult Education program at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church for fourteen years and led Adult Formation at Prince of Peace Catholic Community for the last twenty years of her career. While working, Maggie also received her Master’s Degree in Christian Community Development from Regis University in Denver. Maggie and Rick were very involved with the Catholic Church’s marriage enrichment programs and counseled couples at Prince of Peace and throughout the North Texas area. Maggie enjoyed nothing more than serving others, and her sweet smile and gentle disposition comforted everyone around her until her last day on Earth. Maggie was the proud and loving mother of Ted and Steve and their wives Andrea and Flavia. She was a devoted grandmother to her six grandchildren — Julia, Christopher, Riley Mae, Aiden, Alex, and Avery. Maggie cherished time with her grandchildren and spent countless hours playing with them. She had endless patience and could usually be found down on the rug with them, deeply involved in whatever game they were playing. Maggie will be welcomed into heaven by her parents and her stepmother, Liz. She is survived by ten brothers and sisters, along with seven brothers and sisters-in-law, all of whom she loved very much. Maggie is also survived by her devoted husband Rick, who has been her caregiver for a number of years and has set a faithful and loving example for us all. A service to celebrate Maggie’s life will be held at 10:30am, Saturday, March 24 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (5100 W. Plano Pkwy, Plano, Texas), with a lunch to follow the service. If desired and in lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations go to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (theaftd.org) or to Prince of Peace Catholic Community (popplano.org).

Maggie attended our memory care center for almost seven years. When we first met her, she was very energetic and we feared that she would wear Rick out, but he has been an amazing loving and faithful husband to her the entire time that we have known him.
She was always pleasant and loving. She had a deep love for the Lord, and for Rick, and for her family. In the beginning she would lead our devotions in the mornings. We loved her so much. It was painful to watch her decline over the years, but she never lost that beautiful, sweet spirit. Maggie and Rick should be an inspiration to everyone who knows them. What a wonderful couple. Someday I will ask the Lord why things happen this way. Until then I will have faith that He knows what he is doing. This has been a difficult loss. Farewell, sweet friend.

"Nothing prepares you for the grief you go through when losing a child. I called this funeral home at 2:00 am broken and could barely talk. The amount of compassion and empathy they showed me immediately let me know I found the right place to cremate my son. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism, SINCERE concern, and commitment to making sure my son was honored in the most respectful way. I hope this Funeral home values her as much as my family and I do."

"I can’t say enough about how helpful and professional Dusty Martin, the funeral director at the Aria Cremation location on NW Highway has been. From my initial call, he was kind and informative. My friend died at home while on hospice and she was picked up in about an hour after receiving the call from the hospice nurse. The person who arrived to pick her up was also very professional/respectful and allowed us to take as much time with her as we wished. When I met with Dusty the next day about arrangements, he explained the process and options available without being pushy or trying to “sell” extras. Throughout the process, he kept me informed and, for example, was careful to be certain I understood the cost of the obituary I wanted and offered some options for reducing that cost if I wished. When I stopped by for another reason and started talking about some of the problems I was having with the pictures and media I hoped to use at a memorial lunch I was planning, he not only listened patiently but offered technology advice and let me use his personal media player. I have had experience arranging cremations for four others using two other local companies, and this experience with Dusty at Aria has been by far the best one I have had."

"My Daddy’s service and our family experience at Aria Northwest Highway was truly blessed. Funeral Director Dustin Martin is the kind of person that you would like to see on a more regular basis – but in his industry – you hope to not see him that often. That being said – THANK YOU DUSTIN for your unending kindness, compassion and friendship through the process. Meeting you and discussing Dallas History, Find A Grave and my Dad’s lifelong contributions to the great City of Dallas was simply wonderful! In memory of my dad James A. Dodd, Sr. – I want to personally thank you and let you know that you made everything better in that moment. Your calling to “Be There” is spot on. Aria has a one in a million guy in you! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: God Bless You!!"
