Obituary
Bernice J Colby, 99 of Farmers Branch, Texas passed away in her home on Friday, March 9, 2018. She was born to Mabel and Thomas Lawrence on February 1, 1919 in Madrid, N.Y. She joined the Navy Nurses Corp in Sampson, N.Y. and attained the rank of Lieutenant. She was transferred to work at Bellevue Hospital and then to Oakland Naval Hospital where she worked until the end of WWII. She married in 1946 and traveled with the Navy to Pensacola, Jacksonville Fla., Rhode Island, Caracas Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Japan. She came to Texas to be close to her daughter Valerie and son Charles. She had a passion for golf and loved traveling with her children, especially to Hawaii. Her greatest accomplishment was being a loving grandmother to Mei Lynn and Lian. She was preceded in death by her son Charles Kenneth Colby and her daughter Valerie Cheryl Colby. She is survived by her two granddaughters Mei Lynn Colby and Lian Colby, longtime friend Lynette Hammitt, niece Mary Ann Doyle and her siblings. The Memorial Service will be on Saturday, April 7th 10 am at Highland Park United Methodist Church, Cox Chapel, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas. She will be at rest in the Columbarium located outside of Cox Chapel. Online condolences may be shared at www.AriaCremation.com. The family thanks all the doctors, nurses and staff that cared for her at UTSW as well as all her friends that were so important to her. Her kindness, grace and smile will be missed by everyone.
