Barnett, Rosemarie

Rosemarie I. Barnett went to be with our Lord on April 18, 2018. She is survived by her sisters, Lucille Leo and Connie Jagielski, and her two sons Mark and Stanley Barnett, and their families, including four grandchildren and five great grandsons. Rosemarie’s granddaughters are Katrina Bell and Natalie Cole. Her grandsons are Reuven and Iaasic Barnett.

Rosemarie grew up in New York among four other siblings. Her parents emigrated from Sicily, Italy by way of Ellis Island in New York harbor, greeting Lady Liberty at the beginning of the 20th century.

Rosemarie grew up in New York until her mid 20’s then joined the Foreign Service and left for Mexico City to embark on a new career. She met her future husband, Victor Barnett, who was completing his Latin American studies as a University of Texas graduate. They were engaged and married in Brooklyn, New York in August of 1954.

Rosemarie and Victor travelled most of their lives, with Victor being in the Air Force and later with the Department of Energy. They retired in Austin, Texas. While living in San Antonio, Rosemarie studied sculpting at Trinity University and then furthered her education by studying in Florence, Italy to perfect bronze sculpting. She has created many beautiful creative pieces from the stone as well as bronze. We retain these pieces of her creativity as one characteristic of her creativity.

Rosemarie knew no strangers and always had a smile, pleasant demeanor, or a hug and a kiss for those more familiar with her. She loved to entertain, and was known for her gatherings and dinner parties, she loved to cook and bake…create a nice social gathering for others. She was known for putting together great parties for friends and family, active with the Bridge Club, and Friendship Club of Austin, Texas. Both she and her husband were well known for their hospitality and social grace.

She loved children and babies, and her great grandsons were her joy in her last year. We have all been blessed by Rosemarie’s touch and will miss her deeply. She is now finally with her beloved husband Victor once again.

Rosemarie will be laid to rest beside her husband at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
