Anderson, Daryl Arthur "Andy"
Obituary
Daryl Arthur Anderson (‘Andy’), 78, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018, in Dallas, TX. Born December 7, 1939, in Minneapolis, MN, he was the son of the late Bennie and Dorothy (Golden) Anderson. Daryl spent the early part of his childhood in the Minneapolis, MN area before the family relocated to Lincoln, NE where his father sold printing presses for Heidelberg. Daryl attended Lincoln Northeast High School, where he met his first wife Dorothy (Schultze) Anderson, and graduated from there in 1957. He and Dorothy married in 1960 and relocated to Fremont, NE where Daryl was part owner, with his father, of Color Craft Press. He later sold Color Craft Press and moved on to selling printing presses for Heidelberg, where he and his father were the only father/son sales team for the company. Daryl was also an active member of the Fremont Jaycees and served 30 years in the USMC Reserves servicing large equipment and machinery, retiring with the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. Daryl and Dorothy had had two children, Dave and Debra. In 1981 Daryl moved to Kansas City, MO and married Patti Robinson in 1983, becoming the proud step-father of Jeff, Kristi, Amy, and Megan. He continued working in sales for Heidelberg and Akiyama Printing while in Kansas City. In 1997, Daryl moved to the Dallas area. It was here that he met the love of his life, Sally Pieper. Sally and Daryl were happily unmarried for almost 20 years. Daryl spent the early years in Dallas as a printer accessory salesman. After retiring, he worked part-time in maintenance for VMS Management Services, Inc. until fully retiring at the end of 2017. Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Vendal DiGiacinto, niece Julie Lancaster, and Sally, his soul mate. He is survived by his son, David (Dave) Anderson and his wife Lesley of Omaha, NE, his daughter Debra Anderson of Las Vegas, NV, granddaughters (who affectionately referred to him as ‘Papa’) Kelsey Bender and her husband Jimmy, Ellie Anderson, Alexa Anderson, Shelby Anderson, and Callie Anderson, his two sisters, Darlene Lancaster and husband Jim and Kay DiGiacinto, and brother Donald Anderson and wife Cecelia. He is also survived by his niece Karin Decker, nephews Mike Lancaster, Mark Lancaster, Don Lancaster, and David J. Anderson, step-children, Jeff Parra, Kristi Miller and husband Larry, Amy Williams and husband Randy, Megan Adamson and husband Mike, Sally’s daughter Debbie Hooker, Sally’s grandchildren, and his surrogate family at VMS Property Management. Those who knew Daryl know that he enjoyed listening to music, telling jokes, entertaining, and everything gourmet, and all of this was usually accompanied by good scotch (referred to by Daryl as the nectar of the gods). He loved his friends and family with all his heart and was a positive force in all of their lives. Please join the family for a celebration of Daryl’s life at Café de France (17370 Preston Road, Dallas, TX) on Saturday, June 9, 2018, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. The family would like to thank all of those who cared for Daryl, including co-workers and friends at VMS Management Services, Inc., the 5800 Royal Lane and Prestonwood Green residents, Debbie Hooker, and the cardiology staff at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano.
