Stevens Sr., William Leonard
Obituary
Mr. William Leonard Stevens Sr., 86 years old, of The Colony, Texas passed away on May 30, 2018.
The family will be having a private memorial on Saturday, June 2, at the home he shared with Margaret Buckner Stevens, his wife of almost 60 years.
Bill was born in Summerville, South Carolina, the son of James Alfred Stevens and Irene Idabel Driggers Stevens.
When he was an infant, he contracted polio and the Shriners Hospital saved his life. The doctors didn’t expect him to live to be an adult but against all odds he made it much longer than any doctor ever expected.
When he was about 15, he moved to Long Beach, California to stay with his brothers so he could finish his education. He graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School and then attended Barber College, but he never used that education. Instead he went to work for General Telephone Company in Long Beach, California. He was a sales rep in charge of pay phones in his area. He married and had three children. His favorite thing to do when he was younger was camping with his family and friends. When he retired, he and his wife moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas, where they both resided for many years until moving to The Colony, Texas.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Buckner Stevens of The Colony, Texas; his children by age: daughter Cherie Stevens Guerrant, his son William Leonard Stevens Jr., his youngest daughter Melody Stevens Avery; his sister Betty Stevens Crays; his niece Michele L Waggoner; his nephew Jack Stevens Jr.; and his many grandchildren listed by age: Megan Stewart Munoz, Christopher Avery, Aaron Stewart, William Guerrant III, Rachel Peyton Guerrant, Alex Stevens, Summer Avery, Cody Stevens, and Jason Stevens: and his great grandchildren listed by age: Jocelyn Munoz, Rayne Barber, Colton Stewart, Giselle Avery, and Daniella Avery.
