Ackal, Wayne Joseph
Obituary
NEW IBERIA, LA—Wayne Joseph Ackal passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children on June 14, 2018, in Plano, Texas at the age of 74. He was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on April 15, 1944 to Joseph and Irene (Clark). He eventually made Texas his home, but Wayne’s heart was always with his family in Louisiana. He graduated from Permian High School in Odessa, Texas in 1964. He married George Ann Peevy of Odessa in 1964 and they raised their children, Joe, Renee and Amy in El Paso, Texas. For many years, Wayne had a successful career in sales, but he had a talent and love for cooking. In 1990, using his Cajun mom’s recipes, Wayne and his daughter, Renee opened The Cajun Café, a popular bar and restaurant in El Paso. In later years, he made Dallas his home, a city he loved. He regularly attended mass at All Saints Catholic Church and St. Rita Catholic Church in Dallas. Wayne is survived by his sister, Margaret Ackal of Lafayette,LA; son, Joseph Ackal of Lone Oak, TX; daughters Renee Ackal of Dallas, TX and Amy Ackal (Stephen Waite) of Plano, TX; Grandchildren, Zachary Bryan, Lindsey Bryan, and Chloe Waite; nephews, nieces and many, many cousins who he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Adele Ackal, Albert and Margarite (Maggie) Clark; parents, Joseph Ackal and Irene Ackal Teague; and brother, Neil Bergeron. Special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Evergreen Assisted Living, who made the last months of his life comfortable. Thank you to the staff at Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano, Texas, and Dr. Eric Eichhorn, his Cardiologist for 13 years, who helped him have the best quality of life possible. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asks that you please consider donating to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
