Ackal, George Ann
Obituary
Our beautiful, loving Mother and Grandmother, George Ann, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the age of 73. George Ann was born September 2, 1944 in Wichita Falls, TX, to Henry Garland and Ayleen Yvonne Peevy (nee Stoneking). George Ann was raised in Odessa, TX , where she was a 1963 graduate of Permian High School. She was the quintessential teenager of the time, a cheerleader, active in student council, and belonged to many academic and social clubs and service organizations . Throughout her life, she was proud to be a “Permian Panther”, and had so many fond memories of her high school years. George Ann attended First Baptist Church of Odessa, where she was active in youth groups and later, adult bible study. She leaned on her faith in God throughout her life, and despite many challenges, her faith never wavered. In 1964, George Ann married Wayne Ackal, and became mother to Joseph in 1965, Renee in 1966 and Amy in 1969. Wayne’s job moved the family to different cities including Phoenix, AZ, Arvada, CO and finally, El Paso, TX. In El Paso, George Ann graduated as valedictorian of her class from International Business College in 1979. She worked as a legal secretary for many years, and an admin assistant for Weaver Scopes. George Ann eventually returned to Odessa, to be near her parents. She started working at the Odessa Police Department as an admin assistant in the detective division. She enjoyed this job, made many close friends, and always had interesting stories to tell after a day’s work. She always enjoyed learning and challenging herself. In 1998, she took classes, and began working as a tax preparer for H & R Block in Odessa and eventually managed her own office. After her mother, Yvonne passed away in 2006, George Ann moved to Plano, Texas to be near her children and grandchildren, who were the light of her life. In Plano, she continued working for H & R Block, and retired in 2008. George Ann devoted many hours to researching her family tree, and helping others build their trees. She took great pride in her Texas roots, and one of her greatest gifts and legacies will be the many photos, stories and information she lovingly compiled for generations to come. Family was everything to her. George Ann was preceded in death by her father, Henry Garland Peevy; mother, Ayleen Yvonne; grandparents; many dear aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her sister, Jo Beth Hamby (David) of Odessa, TX; brother, Gary Peevy and wife Nancy of Rogers, AR; son, Joseph Ackal of Lone Oak, TX; daughter, Renee Ackal of Dallas,TX; daughter, Amy Ackal and husband Stephen Waite of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Diane Weissert of Dallas, TX; Zachary and Lindsey Bryan of Anchorage, AK; Chloe Waite of Seoul , South Korea ; niece, Bethany Peevy of Fayetteville, AR; nephew, Will Peevy and wife, Elizabeth of Japan; and many, many beloved cousins and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Timothy Chappel, Dr. Joshua Burak, Dr. Sripathi Kethu and Dr. Folashade Lester for helping George Ann have the best quality of life possible.
