Canady, Levitte Earl
Obituary
Levitte Earl Canady was born September 29, 1938 in Cumberland County, North Carolina to William Levitte Canady and Mildred Willie Watson Canady. Earl left this earth for his heavenly home October 7, 2018 at the age of 80 years old. Earl was the oldest of ten siblings and was raised on the family tobacco farm in Gray’s Creek, North Carolina. It was a hard life, but filled with love and happiness. He graduated from Gray’s Creek High School in 1956 and joined the United States Air Force where he served as a B-52 mechanic during the height of the Cold War. He was immensely proud of his service to his country. Earl also never forgot his family, routinely sending much of his military pay home to help his parents and his younger brothers and sisters. After his military service ended, Earl enjoyed a successful career in the insurance industry. He met his beloved wife, Ruby Catherine Richey Canady, in Shreveport, Louisiana on a blind date. They married six weeks later, on New Year’s Eve 1960, and remained faithfully and happily married for the next 58 years. Together, they loved and raised four children, and gleefully spoiled seven grandchildren. Upon his retirement, he and Cathy packed up and spent the next seventeen years touring North America via motor home until their health forced them off the road. Earl and Cathy were intrepid explorers, driving their King of the Road from Point Barrow, Alaska to Key West, Florida and all points in between. Earl was always known for his kind heart, generous spirit, and roaring sense of humor. He loved his God, his family, his community, and a good joke or story. He truly never met a stranger and placed the needs of others above his own, always. A finer man has never walked this earth. Earl is survived by his wife, Cathy; his son Kevin Earl Canady, his wife, Teresa, their daughter, Megan, and son-in-law, Ryan Cruz; his son Eric Newton Canady, his wife, Chie, their sons, Ryan, Tyler, and Kyle; his daughter Mary Carol Canady and her son, Brody; his daughter Melissa Canady Wargo, her husband, Steve, their daughter, Shea, and son, Fin. In addition, Earl has six surviving siblings – Ann Canady Davis, Linda Canady Davis, and Carolyn Canady White of Gray’s Creek; Kathryn Canady Wilson of Parkton, North Carolina; Richard Lewis Canady of Wilmington, North Carolina; and E. Terry Canady of Lumber Bridge, North Carolina. His extended surviving family includes many, many loved ones in Texas and in North Carolina. Celebration of Life services will be held October 10 at 2:00 pm at Aria Funeral Home on Preston Road in Dallas, Texas for family and friends in Texas and on October 27 in Gray’s Creek, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Earl’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association (ALZ.org) to help find a cure for this hideous disease or to St. Jude’s Hospitals for children. Arrangements are under the direction of ARIA Cremation Service and Funeral Home 19310 Preston Road Dallas, Texas 75252 214-306-6700

Dear Melissa and the Canady family: We are all so sorry to hear of your loss and our deepest condolences. I remember meeting Mr. Canady at Melissa and Steve’s home when he and his wife Cathy visited in the RV. As the little ones ran around he seemed so happy to be there and in the midst of it all. We did not know him well, but he seemed like a wonderful and jovial fellow and great and beloved husband, father and grandfather. We are all sorry for your loss. Ray, Judy, and JP

Uncle Earl made a great impression on me with his ever ending jokes every morning at my Wk. He and I talked a lot about our service to this great Nation. He always left me with a simple “ See you Later Alligator and I would have to respond with After While crocodile “. Great man who I will be forever thankful to have met. RIP Warrior your time on earth is done.
Slow Hand Salute!

What a wonderful man! I feel blessed to have known him. I always enjoyed his sense of humor, his helpfulness (great chicken coop!), his love and loyalty to his family, and his generosity and concern for the neighbor lady (me!) I am so sorry for your loss Cathy, Melissa, and the rest of the family. From his stories, his attitude and happiness, and knowing those who loved him, it was obvious he had a wonderful life.
