Obituary
Langdon Anthony “Zip” Viracola was born on March 26, 1928 in Long Branch, New Jersey to Jennie Sardegna Viracola and Thomas J. Viracola; he passed away on October 14, 2018 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 90 years. Zip grew up in Long Branch, New Jersey and was raised with siblings Thomas Viracola, Joseph Viracola, and Florence “Fiddle” Viracola. He graduated from Long Branch High School and Fordham University. After playing football for Vince Lombardi at Fordham University, he went on to play for the Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers in the NFL. Life then carried him through various businesses that included being a stuntman in Hollywood, an agent for players in the NFL, and the motion picture industry. He was always known as a funny, friendly, unique jokester. Most of all, he was a loving father, friend, and confidant. Zip is preceded in death by his parents Thomas J. Viracola and Jennie Sardegna Viracola and his siblings Thomas Viracola, Joseph Viracola, Fiddle Viracola, niece Cynthia Viracola, and nephew Rocky Viracola. Zip is survived by his children Michael Thomas Viracola, Teresa Viracola Phipps, Angela Viracola Potter, and Mark Langdon Viracola, their mother Mary Jane Viracola Tickner, and two daughter in laws, Susan Tracy Viracola and Buffy Beierschmitt Viracola, and his grandchildren Christian Michael Viracola, Avery Grace Viracola, Kenneth Eugene Phipps IV, Mark Anthony Phipps, Caden Thomas Potter, Alec Langdon Viracola and Jared Nicholas Viracola, and four loving nieces Jennie, Patricia, Glenda, and Michele, and two loving nephews Thomas and Charlie. A memorial and Celebration of Life, will be held at 11am on October 29, 2018 at St. Monica Catholic Church at 9933 Midway Road, Dallas, TX 75220. Reception will follow at St. Monica in the gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Zip Viracola’s name to the SPCA or the Alzheimer’s Foundation. My thoughts & prayers are with the Viracola Family – Zip was a great friend and will be greatly missed.
ZIP was a very colorful and interesting person. Our sincere sympathy to his family.
We have so many great memories of our boys playing football together and Zip helping with coaching. We consider him a good friend who always told it “like it was”. Sending our condolences to the family with our love and prayers.
