Raymond was born on June 29, 1944 in Palestine Texas to Odessa Owens and Peter Brown. He grew up in Anderson County with his siblings Faye, Otha, Paul, and Shirley. He graduated from Flint Hill High School and completed his studies at Prairie View A&M University. He met and married Charles Merle Porter in Dallas, Texas. He answered to call to service to his country and entered the Air Force, serving in Vietnam. After serving honorably, Raymond returned to Dallas and had a rich professional career in the the medical field, sales, entrepreneurship and education.

Ray never met a stranger in his life. Ray was charismatic and charming. He made a lasting impact on the lives the he touched. He relished the opportunity to spend time with friends and family.

He passed away on October 17, 2018 in Plano, Texas at the age of 74 years old.

He reunites with his parents Odessa Owens Barrett and Peter Brown of Palestine, Texas; his brother Paul Crowder of Palestine, Texas; his sisters Ester Brown Mabry of Oakland California, his sister LaVera Strong, and his brother William Brown of Palestine, Texas.

Carrying forward his legacy: daughters Yolanda Crowder and Shunta Crowder, both of Dallas, Texas; his sons Roderick Ramon Crowder (Saundra) and Marcus Johnson of Dallas, Texas; Ms Charles Merle Crowder of Dallas, Texas; his grandchildren Zahria Crowder, Xavier Roderick Crowder, Aliyah Davis and Kaydin Johnson, Texas; great-grandchildren Hailey Crowder and Kaison Crowder of Dallas, Texas; sisters Faye Daugherty (Charles), Otha Richmond and Vernell Collier Palestine, Texas; and Shirley Garrett (Johnny)  of Dallas, Texas; along with nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and numerous lifelong friends.

Memorial Services are to be held at Aria Funeral Home, located at 19310 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75252. Viewing will be Friday October 26, 2018 from 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral Services occur at Aria Memorial Chapel on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 11-1pm. Final interment will occur at DFW National Cemetery will full military honors on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a contribution to the Raymond Crowder Memorial Fund to help support his grandchildren, political organization and veterans, all of which were extremely important to Ray.
