Owen “Bud” Gathings Hulsey of Plano Texas passed away October 29, 2018 at the age of 89. Bud was born in St. Louis Missouri to Thomas Galbert Hulsey and Mary “Gladys” Franklin Hulsey on May 6, 1929. He grew up in St. Louis with his brother; Franklin Hulsey. Bud was a class of 1947 graduate of Roosevelt High School in St. Louis and later became a class of 1951 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. During that time, Bud was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve. His work as a dedicated business professional spanned almost five decades and stretched across several cities. He worked in St. Louis, Mt. Vernon Illinois, Madison Wisconsin, Nashville Tennessee, Waco Texas, and Kansas City Missouri. He and his beloved wife of 65 wonderful years, Martha Woodruff Hulsey, retired to Tucson Arizona in 1994 where they enjoyed their retirement before moving to Dallas in 2007. Bud was an ardent fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers. He loved to play tennis, swim, hike and run (he started running in the mid-1960’s and never stopped). Bud enjoyed discussing national and world current events with anyone as well as researching family history. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Owen “Bud” Hulsey is preceded in death by his wife Martha Woodruff Hulsey, and his parents. Bud is survived by his son, Thomas (Lauren) Hulsey of Dallas Texas, daughter, Kathleen (Wayne) McLarren of Raymore Missouri, son, Brian (Annette) Hulsey of Olathe, Kansas, one brother; Franklin Hulsey of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, six grandchildren; Robert Hulsey, Ryan McLarren, Amy McLarren, Michelle Palmore, Joshua Hulsey, and Samuel Hulsey, as well as three great-grandchildren; AJ Hulsey, Livia McLarren, and Braylee Palmore. A Celebration of Bud’s Life will take place in St. Louis Missouri on May 4, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Compton Heights Baptist Church. Compton Heights Baptist Church is where Bud met Martha at a Valentine’s Day party and were later married in 1952. The date will coincide with what would have been his 90th birthday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating in Bud’s name to one of the following philanthropic organizations:
